Anyone here using timming tells has part of their game, either reading them or trying to give them off? Up until now have ignored trying to read my opponents timing tells but I have been working on not giving off my own. Two things that came from a recent coaching session I had with Primo (which was awesome!)
1 - Insta Cbetting - Cbetting too fast usually means not reading the flop, just cbetting because "Hey, that's what Harrington says to do1"
2 - Thinking a long time before checking a flop from the Big Blind. - Usually a marginal hand, but not nothing and not top pair.
Using the above as your only read can definitely get you in trouble, and there are a myriad of reasons someone might take a while too act (posting on 2p2, taking a quick piss). Also a thinking player will definitely give off a false timing tell from time to time.
I'd like to see what everyone else thinks about timing tells in general and maybe they can post some specific ones as well.
How about fast barreling through all streets and insta shove on river?
Or like Check/ insta shove?
I never believe those fast shoves on the river, i called them even with A high once before to prove i am right.
And i once played liek i have the nuts on a draw heavy board, where a straight and flush hit on the river, i used my time bank and then reraised allin, the guy insta called me with J high and he won :)
I think that the big thing you should be recognizing with players who make fast plays is that they didn't take time to think about their move. For example, if your opponent instashoves the river then he obviously isn't thinking on some sort of complex level.
If he times down then it tells you fairly little because he could be doing it intentionally. However, if the river is a spot where in order to bluff he would HAVE to consider your range and he instashoves, then he is probably instashoving because he has the hand and has nothing to think about.
i have been personally trying to make all my calls/raises on the exact same count down, not too quick not too slow
Just gonna confirm what xSCWx said. A fast play just means that villain had a plan prior to the card coming, or in the case of a snap checkraise, a plan prior to you betting. Depending on how the board texture formed, you can make some assumptions about villain's hand usually.
Don't you guys think that the entire game (controlling opponents behavior) is about your own timing tells? Whenever I'm playing I'm always thinking about how my timing tell can change the villain during THIS hand and how it changes him to play the rest of the match.
Like A-6-K-Q-6... let's say you have the 6... and the river gives you trips.. do you guys start to think what kind of bet will give you most value against his range, or do you guys try to like instant bet cause u feel villain will call lighter?
To me it's always like, sure if we think 5-10 seconds we can find the best play during one hand... but at the same time it might make villain fold/call perfectly compared to instant betting.
Or like when your high blinds and instant fold to open raise preflop, it will make opponent feel more comfortable to open raise (which we dont want him to be).
But all this information kind of makes me put all focus on the timing tells instead of concepts which is starting to become a nightmare. What do you guys suggest? Is timing tells really this important or should I manipulate timing tells on big hands only?
