$55 first hand

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/745048

What do you think his range is on each street? It just seems so strange because he limp/calls pf, then minraises a pretty connected flop. I'm guessing that he either has a weak pair or just complete air, since a draw would either call or raise bigger for greater fold equity, and TP+ would also raise bigger to shut out draws. So should I 3bet here to fold out his equity share, or give him a chance to 2/3 barrel?

Re: $55 first hand

Greetings,

I'm not an expert but I read your post and the hand history.  I'm barely beating the low limits, but I still thought I'd chime in.  I think this guy is probably a complete fish.  If he's going to limp and call a 4x bet from the BB, you probably have to put him on a marginal hand.  I would rule out AK through A10 as he would have raised preflop instead of trying to see a cheap flop.  Also, you can get rid of all high pairs.  I'm guessing he probably would call with overcards or suited connectors.  Maybe something like J9s, J10s, Q8s-Q9s, Q10, Kxs-K9s?   The flop was relatively dry and you fired out a bet.  He's probably thinking you missed it because it came low.  So, he's wondering if he can get you off the flop for a cheap price (and as an added bonus he can represent the flush).  He fires again on the turn trying to pull you off your hand, but you're stubborn. Then on the river he's frightened the strength you've shown by calling his raise and bet.  Also, he's worried you made the flush draw and he checks it down.  That's my read on it.  Of course, it's all speculation and I'm not an expert like many on this site.

Re:$55 first hand

Greetings,

My only question has to do with your bet sizing preflop.  I'm wondering if you bloated the pot too much out of position by going for 5x instead of 4x or 80 chips.  On the flop I think I your bet is ok (maybe a little light) against most opponents.  But against a calling station or loose player I'd make it closer to a pot sized bet.  Of course, this is your first hand and you don't have any reads. On the turn I think you just call his bet like you did.  And of course I'd check the river like you did.

Thank you,

Jeffrey

 I've had unknowns do this

I've had unknowns do this against me with everything ranging from TTT to flush draws to air. I really don't think that any hands can be ruled out - some people just aren't thinking at all and without any sort of reads on the villain I think that it is wrong to say that any hands aren't within his range. However, I think it is probably correct to assume that for most villains their range with this line would be weighted towards hands besides TT (because this is almost always going to raise preflop) and the flush draw (because this will usually raise bigger).

In my experience, single pair hands are probably going to be the most common, and I don't think that any unimproved hands that were single pairs on the flop are going to barrel this turn unless it was the T. I would probably fold at the turn.

I might be more prone to calling the turn bet if I had reason to believe that he would give up at the river, but given how this hand played out it seems very likely that he will end up firing on the river and forcing us off of or unimproved hand.

i think his range is very

i think his range is very much polarised to ether abluff or a very strong hand like 22 or Tx of hearts
