3-bets at both low and high blind levels

Hi guys,

Just wanted to ask a question about 3-bets in general.

I've adopted a small ball style of poker thanks to some excellent coaching from Cog, but I still feel uncomfortable in 3-bet pots. As an example, if I hold AK, the button raises 3x and I 3-bet and miss the flop, I often don't know what to do, whether at low or high blinds.

Obviously on a wet board I'm not going to continue if it hasn't hit me, but should I be cbetting a lot even when I haven't hit to follow up?
I find I have a natural aversion to doing so and often wonder if I would have been better playing a smaller pot!

I'd prefer to never 3-bet with the exception of the premium high pairs because they're easier to play posflop, and I prefer to chip my opponent down slowly rather than spew off chips unnecessarily trying to get them to fold on a board I haven't properly connected with.

Any thoughts? Anyone here recommend not 3-betting at all?

John

I played for a long time

I played for a long time with a very low 3bet percentage and did well. I 3bet a lot more now.. I think that your issue with 3betting is more of an issue with 3bet sizing. Try 3betting to amounts that are bigger or less than 3x.

Thanks

Hey xSCWx,

Thanks for the reply - definitely food for thought.

I'll have a think about my 3-bet sizing and give it a go. Maybe I'm 3-betting too large and ending up with an uncomfortable level of chips in the middle without a made hand.

Thanks,
John
