Had no reads on this guy. I think i need ~40% if he calls every time.

Check back preflop. With no

Check back preflop.

With no reads, you're bloating the pot OOP deep and that's a recipe for disaster.

Think about the flop, you have no idea how this guy plays his draws, overcards, pairs, etc.  Not to mention you have no idea what his limp/call range looks like.

If you had some of that information you could come up with the right decision much more often with your PF actions, but you're making the pot bigger with a positional disadvantage readless, avoid that with all but premium type hands when you're this deep and readless.

I often tell students that insist "I can't let him see a flop for free" or "I don't want to play so weak here" the following:

- You're OOP and deep, the spot with the biggest disadvantage in the game for you.

- No reads means you're going to have to make some wide and often inaccurate assumptions.  Best case, your generalities and default play is OK against him.

- Why risk 80 to win 20 when you can check back and just lead the flop for 30 chips?  Risking the 50 to win his 20 and allowing yourself to see a cheap flop.

All in all, think about other options before bloating the pot OOP with marginal hands in these spots.  His 1/75th stack BB is not nearly as valuable as it is when it's worth 1/20 of his stack, and when effective stacks are closer to 20bbs or so, you'll not only have better reads on average but the positional value of the SB is worth a lot less.

Yeah, check back

Yeah, check back preflop...makes playing weak Ax hands a lot easier if you hit your A. Also, this flops smacks the average limping range of a villain in the face, once he raises you, I doubt you're ahead.
