CarbonPoker

Hi guys,

I created a new rakeback account on CarbonPoker this week and started playing the $10's and $20's.

They have a very unique format where the blinds increase every 10 hands, levels are 10/15, 15/30, 25/50, 50/100, 100/200 and 150/300.  It's a pretty fast game, feels pretty much like the ultra turbos on Cereus, but they give you a 30 second timebank.

The software is really cool, and they also have a nice grid view for multi tabling.

Regarding the game, are there any special adjustments I need to make due to this unique structure ?

The only thing I could think of at the moment is that you shouldn't fold any of your buttons in the first blind level due to the great odds you're getting.

Make sure that you have a

Make sure that you have a good comfort and understanding in the end game areas.  You reach that part of the game more often in a faster structure.

How high does the action go on Carbon?

Carbon =)

Played hu sngs at merge (carbon, nordice, etc) when goldenarch poker was giving away $500 to play on for free (so called staking, i.e. fill games).  I know i'm going to sound crazy but i think that site is rigged. =).  anyways blinds change every 7 hands, yes every 7 hands.  Pretty much learn push/fold and u might be the next bullitpete. GL @ merge.  =0

Well, blinds now go up every

Well, blinds now go up every 10 hands - maybe they changed that recently.

Endgame is really important, but all the opponents I encountered so far are just terribly bad in it - I feel like I have a really high edge in these games.

I've now played 195 games with an 11% ROI (my nickname is 'IchoTolot'), but this could be due to an upswing.

So far, I really like the site - but I'm a bit worried that it may be difficult to get any action at higher limits.  At the moment (it's 7:20 pm EST on a Sunday), I've registered for a $30 and a $50 games for about 10 minutes, waiting for some opponent to play me.

However, I see a guy sitting at $400 and he has a 7% ROI @ avg. stake of $299 over a decent samplesize, so it must be possible to play these limits at the site somehow.

Maybe it's just a bad time right now.

Ok, variance is really huge

Ok, variance is really huge in this format - just look at my sick session from tonight.

My big goal for 2010 is beating tilt - so I'll keep my Sharkscope stats (my nickname is IchoTolot) unblocked for everybody to see, there's no more "anonymous tilting" anymore ;-)

And tonight, I don't even care that much anymore about being down some 15 BI's - I think I made the correct decisions throughout the session and played as good as possible - and I made my opponents do some really bad things such as calling a shove with 23o at more than 15 bb.  Well, Aces do not always win, but overall I'll make a nice profit.

So I really got 100 games in tonight - can't even believe it, I played the last 8 hours at 2-3 tables.

Well, this was really a marathon session - I wanted to reach the $250 MGR, and according to Carbon's Rake Report, I accomplished that.

Regarding traffic at the site - I played from 1am-9am local (that's 7pm-3am EST), constantly got action on the $20's all the time and also at $30 - though I needed to wait a bit longer on the $30's.

So far - after 297 matches @ 3% ROI - my impression of the site is that most fish are a lot more aggressive than on Cereus or Stars, and they're also willing to get it in pre a lot lighter.  They seem to know that they only have very limited time until they blind out, and I've already seen them do really stupid things like limp/call K5o quite often.

I think I still need to work a little on my endgame - for instance trying to reduce variance by not going into shove-fold mode too early, or attacking high-blind limpers.  Tonight, I got the impression that I might be a bit too nitty when it comes to attacking high-blind limpers, as I only shove with rather strong hands and check back a lot.

At the moment, I go to shove-fold at about 12-15 bb, depending on my opponent - trying to limp and/or minraise as long as possible.

Ok, that's it for the moment - need to get some sleep and then get ready for a very stresssfull workweek - but it's good to know that I can reach $500 MGR by playing on the weekends only.

Ok, so I really need to find

Ok, so I really need to find a way to beat variance in these games, or this is going nowhere with me.

It's always the same - either I run into the top of my opponent's range in the first hand where I'm at the button @  10 bb - or I'm a 60-70% favorite and lose the flip :-(

And it's just ridiculous to see what people are calling me with - so longterm, I should really make some profit if I could only beat short-term variance.  It just sucks so badly so see AKs get called by 95o and lose.

Well, I better turn off my computer now and take a 2-3 day break before I start tilting....
