My bro needs a small income so he can continue his art career... and since he is totally unfamiliar with poker, I wanted to get him into the hyper turbo HU SNG's which are quite easy to learn once you know the fundamentals.
So my question is, are the low stakes (28+1 or 42+1,50) on FTP beatable for a small edge? xSCWx recently told me that the 160+4 are probably not beatable. However I noticed that there are weak players at the low stakes, but I'm not sure if it beats the rake.
I wouldn't wish HU super turbos upon my worst enemy. They are up there with waterboarding.
Just teach him the value of position, and make sure he almost never bluffs.
Then have him play regular speeds on PokerStars or Full Tilt. Basically, teach him to be a nit, how to value bet big and he'll make money with somewhat low to non existent variance.
I think it's much easier for you to teach people a basic nit style to beat the 5-10s for some ROI rather than have them "trust you" that the end game stuff is profitable and correct when they're dealing with 20+ buyin swings regularly.
I think he's too lazy to learn the game, I'll give it a shot though.
Show him a preflop chart and otherwise the things I mentioned.
You, in particular, would be a good candidate to teach him this Levian.
From what I recall, you learned the game in a very structured way. Just remember the basic things you learned and teach those. Don't complicate his mind with details and "when you move up you'll need to think about this" quite yet. Let him make some small steady profit for his art career, then see if he's interested in moving on up.
