Hi to all Super Turbo crushers,My Holdem Manager stats show that my BB calling range results (1k+ hands) for effective stack sizes of 8BB or less is negative. My question is:What is considered a good average calling range if villain shoves for 8BB,7BB,6BB,5BB, etc?Btw, I am aware of the Nash Calling Chart but because a lot of people say it is not optimal I do not use it. Thanks in advance for your help
Very opponent dependent. Generally tighter than Nash vs most, but if they are shoving wide Nash BB is going to be closer to what you want to call with.I would imagine you're too tight OOP and you're losing money by folding too often.Let me ask you a few questions and answer honestly for your last 1k games: Readless, guy is fairly aggressive, what's your calling range 8bb deep vs an open shove? 5bb deep? Do you use the Nash OOP chart for 5bb or less or do you do someting else?
First I started with a adjusted Nash calling range. This for 12BB or less. Adjusted here means that I've adjusted with 3BB. So If Nash said call with 12BB then I called up to 9BB. It did not work well. Later I have used SAGE, which is if I understood correct is close but tighter than Nash. I use SAGE for 7BB and less. SAGE works good for pushing but until now also fails for calling for me.For pushing (<=10BB) I am in doubt; is Chubukov the way to go or should I use SAGE?
Hi Power, there is no shortcut or chart you can follow for what you ask about. It depends on villains pushing range.Every hand you have to estimate villains pushing range and based on that range and your hand and odds you re getting you decide to call or fold.
Hi Mischi,Thanks for your answer. I know that there is no exact shortcut or chart and agree 100% with you that it depends on the players pushing range. But then please tell me your calling range based on the player types: tight pusher ,loose pusher, maniac pusher. I am very interested in your thinking proces here. And about odds for calling; I only use the 2:1 rule and I am curious if you use something else during a match.Fwiw, I am playing the micro stakes $5 super turbos at FT and the players are playing, how do I say this, not always logical. I imagine this is quite different compared to higher stakes. Maybe also someone can comment who has been through the different stakes.Really appreciate any help.
I have been through different stakes and you can be sure that such players as you mention (not logical..) are at all stakes, you can see this in many videos here too, even high stakes. So dont waste your time thinking that your plays are not working because people play different at various stakes in general but focus on your opponent.Since you insist on getting general guideline ;) :First look at stack depth. e.g 5bb deep you need 40% equity, 6bb deep 41,7% etc. Do the math yourself for different effective stacks.Than look at your hand. e.g. you have Q3o when 6bb deep and opponent pushes. You need 41,7% equity to make break even call. Now, based on what you seen villain do in past hands (recent hands), estimate his range. Does he push worse hands here? 98o, 75s, J5o.. if yes, call. If no, and he folds frequently at this stack depth (60%+.. that means in general he pushes top 40% - only better hands than yours) - than fold. (I assume unpolarized pushing range at this stack depth. When deeper ( 10 - 13bb), some people push polarized range, so you have to think about this too when estimating villains range..)Using logic like this you can create a table you ask for yourself.
Thanks Mischi for your thorough answer. You definitely gave me some new things to think about and work on.
