Hey guys, I recently started playing $2 heads up on Carbon Poker (merge).
I feel like I have a lot of holes in my game in not adjusting for the wide variety of players at these stakes. I'm frequently aggressive against call stations and misread boards that I am behind on. Here's a quick (30min) video of a few matches at the $2 stake.
I currently have 67 wins and 65 losses which puts me at a net loss of about 4-5 buyins due to the $0.10 fee. If anybody would like to give some pointers I would love to learn something.
Thanks for watching,
Derpinater
i made a 5 part series that I think will help you get a decent foundation very quickly, if you are interested. it's called thinking like a winner-waldie
I recommend the waldie191's series, it helped me a lot in my game. Rypac leakfinder vs aggressive player too
Embedded the video here for you. No time to watch today myself, but hopefully others can chime in and give you some feedback.
Open J3 from the btn 1st hand3:00, def open 74s from the btn ainec4:20, def open K3s from the btn ainec4:30, def open 64s ainec4:50, you open K2o, so I guess the K3s fold was a misclick?5:35, 55, jam all-in>>mr/c6:00, A2, all in for 12bbs>>> mr/c7;35, 25, I would bet the river. The river is a good card for your range and he unlikely has many Jx in his range, AJ and KJ most likely raise/jam pre. Given how this guy has been playing he most likely has a weak pair, Kx, or a weak Ax8:10, T9s, 7bbs deep, limping and jamming are both reasonable, mr/c is prolly the worst out of your 3 options8:25, Q7s, 3bbs deep, call his jam. I know this guy is playing pretty tight, but you should still call. You only need 33% equity to call, even if he only jammed the top 15% of hands, which would be wayyyyy too tight at this stack depth, you should still call!!9:00, T5s, 5bbs deep, don't fold! Look up Nash chart. This guy will be calling tighter than Nash, so clearly you should be jamming this hand.17:10, K3o, raising the turn is turning your hand into a bluff. For your line to be good you need him to barrel air and also jam it when you raise. This could be true, but it is early and we don't really have any info suggesting this, and if it is true, you cannot fold when he jams! Yur line just doesn't make too much sense, your line suggests you are bluffing, and I think you should just choose different hands to bluff w/ in this spot rather than the hand you chose, but likely bluffing in this spot is not even good to begin w/, so just call17:43, JT, why do you 4x JT 14bbs deep? Make sure you know why you are doing what you are doing. Your hand isn't a hand you want to induce w/ and it is not a hand you want to be bluffing w/.18:33, A9, 3-bet jam 12bbs deep22:00, 98, 8bbs deep, do not mr/c this hand, jamming and limping are better options24:00, 33, 25-30bbs deep, 3-bet jam or fold over his 4x open. As played, on the river you should bet. Idk much about his range here, but on the river he can have some Kx, air, and some Ax. Kx obv is never folding, but he obv doesn't have much Kx to begin w/ because he prolly bets the turn w/ his good Kx. He will prolly hero call w/ Ax, but at the same time he prolly doesn't have much Ax to begin w/ and he might not c-bet Ax either. All you need is for his air combos to be around the number of combos of his value range, you can do the math, but I think it is safe to say this will be a profitable bet. If you need more of a reason, you have the nut low, and how much air do you actually show up w/ on this river? If you c/r clubs and QT then you really have no air on this river, so he can only call if he has a full house which def makes your bluff profitable.26:30, T6s, 10bbs deep, jamming will be better than folding, so you can't fold27:30, K2, 15bbs deep, def play this hand, he isn't being as aggro as you think, especially after he doubled up.Overall, not too bad, but you play too tight pre-flop and you don't understand basic push/fold poker. Surprisingly enough, if you just work on that you will be crushing the games you play

I am gonna review it ASAP. That way you have multiple opinions. Here is the first part :). Game 101:10 88: Seems ok, a call should also be in your arsenal. A fold should not (to a min3b). Game 2 (havent we all played Jack Daniels before ;) 03:10 74s: You should raise since he likes folding OOP. I would raise atc untill proven otherwise. 03:24 62o: Based on what we got he seems TP. You could consider limp/stabbing hands like these sometimes. I should not do it 100% ott with garbage like this, but now we need to go off based on what we have and up untill now we know he is really tight and passive. 03:55 77: I like the flop but I do not like the turn. He seems strong, given that we labeled him as TP this probably is a strong line. Good fold, I would not raise. 04:19 K3o: You should not fold. Minraise it 05:09 Like stated earlier, there is not alot of incentive to keep folding PF. He is passive. IMO Raise > Limp/stabbing flops > fold. 05:29 PushFold at 15bb is pretty normal. Alot of good articles on PF at <25bb. You should look into endgame vids or ST vids. 06:42 K7: Pf is ok. Flop and turn are ok. River meh, 200 should get the job done (keep your bluffs cheap in general). I dont really know if I like the bet though. I would rather give up I think since he is this tight. 07:42 J2: Vs him this is probably a shove at 8bb. 08:00 T9: This is a shove and its not even close. You can shove this at <20bb and it will show a profit, certainly vs this guy. 08:30 Q7: This is a call. General conclusion up untill now: You play to tight, you need to capitalize on his tightness. Your endgame is way to tight. Look into Nash charts as a guideline, you will be amazing how profitable some hands are <20bb for a (open)shove. I'll do the rest later. One practical tip: make you tables bigger if you record a vid, its easier on the eyes. I would keep vids a bit shorter, like 15-20 mins max.
watched it... ur talking about ranges, but do u have an idea what it really means or better what hands are in a given range? it sounds like ur talking like something uv heard in vids by coaches but dont really take advantage out of it... no offense btw.!!! whats ur goal? i remember u saying as long as there are this bad players... ur game has tons of leaks as well... what i wanna say is, concentrate on important things like ur mind for the game/PoF-ranges/Postflopgame etc. ... no need to tilt @ micros ... just stay cool ;) i think ull get help here! GL!!!
Hey thanks for the replies, guys. The main problem I have is that I understand push/fold ranges in theory (about 95% correct on ICM trainer) but somehow it gets lost in translation when I'm playing for money. How can I push past this thinking of "feeling bad" if I show up a worse hand and just shove the correct ranges?I'm 124:117 for 1st:2nd, so not much improvement.
Just trust the math. When you 4-bet KK and your opponent shows up w/ AA, do you feel bad about 4-betting? You can't let short term variance affect your future play
