Anybody have any good comedian suggestions? Particularly non mainstream comics, because I have gone through many of the mainstream ones over the years.
I'll start it out with our very own Qi "QiHu00" Hu, who stepped up to the plate for the first time recently. Below is his open mic debut!
I phase in and out with comedians it seems. I'm not as into Robin Williams, Dave Attel, Conan or Ricky Gervais as I used to be, but lately I've found myself laughing over Bill Maher quite a bit. His show can be hit or miss, but his movie and stand up are pretty good stuff.
Another guy I tend to like a lot of material from is Zach Galifianakis (scruffy dude best known for his role in the hangover).
Bill Hicks and George Carlin if you like your comedy a bit more 'raw'. I'm sure there's heaps of their stuff on youtube. Also Eddie Murphy's 'Delirious' is worth a watch if you've been living in a cave for 20 years. edit: just realised these guys are pretty mainstream but it's the best I can do :)
Jo Koy,Steven Wright,Ron White,Bob Sagat (seriously),Doug Stanhope these guys all kill me. Though its pretty hard to know many non mainstream comics that are worth a dam unless u spend hours on youtube or weeks following the circuit tbh
He's not the easiest guy to get into - he's been around for years but I only just warmed to him a few years back and now i think he's the best Comic in the Uk that hasn't gone global...and he won't go global. There's loads of his stuff on you tube. You just have to delve in and suck it up really cos he's got his own style and it's not so easy to notice that he has one...which is why a lot of folk let him pass them by. But he's a very smart comic and very very funny. Just type in "41st Best Stand-Up Ever" in youtube - they have the entire routine in split in to parts. He was voted 41st best stand-up of all time and so made that the title of the material he was working on at the time. He also has a BBC show called the Stewart Lee Comedy Vehicle which is great too. I hate to say that it takes a while to 'get it' - cos laughter ought not to be like that. But in life we meet people who at first we might not like or feel indifference towards and then we catch them in a different light...we get the naked lunch thing and see whats on the end of every fork and it all fits into place...all I can say is his last Comedy Vehicle Series had me in bits, he does long monologues that are very well structured and he kinda goes off on one...and plays the part of the man confused at the stupidity or the madness of certain aspects of life...or people, but he doesn't take broad swipes its very nuanced, very layered. I dont know how to embed but thats the first part of the routine, the rest is there on youtube. I doubt you'll liek it at first but five or ten years from now you might. Here's a link to the Ang Lee Joke. It's almost as good as the Joe Pasquale joke but you don't know who Joe Pasquale is so...save that for 15 years from now.
Zach Galifianakis! Funny guy :) I enjoyed his humor in "between two ferns". Probably all of you from USA already watched it, but i am from Europe, so for me that was not so old experience:) I will let myself to post one vid from that series in this thread, although its not a stand-up (however still good acting). Also Louis C.K. Most of you probably know close to all his stand-ups. But I still want to post one of my favorite clip with him. There is plenty good stand-ups from my region: Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania... but sadly all of them in russian, lithuanian... :)
I am always looking for new interview opportunities with HUSNG and Spin Reg's who play $30s and higher. Please PM me here or on 2p2 (Charles Hawk).
