So, until now, I only have a vague idea of what poker means. I am not new to gambling, neither online or live, but I am VERY new to poker. Basically I only know hand rankings in texas hold`em.
My first question it is if I am wrong to start in poker directly with Heads Up games or should I firstly start with ring texas holdem cash ring games of 6-9 people ?
My second question would be to know with what kind of Heads Up games should I start: Heads Up SNG`s or Heads Up cash games ?
My third question: I have NL Heads Up Holdem by Moshman, I also downloaded your Mersenneary ebook. - I should read both ? (if so, with wich one to start ?)
My fourth question: - Do I need to read some other books like The Poker Theory or The Poker Mindset before reading this/those Heads Up related book(s) ?
And last question, just by curiosity: - how much in big blinds / per table / per hour does an expert win (using player selection ?) at Heads Up cash games at 50NL ?
Since we're a heads up sng community, you may find we favor heads up sngs overall, but we also have a lot of good answers for you as to why we do.
1) Heads up sngs seem to be where a lot of the softer money is at. They've exploded in growth and popularity from recreational players.
2) see above answer.
3) Moshman is easy to understand, Mersenneary's is more valuable and a little more complex, but it shouldn't be difficult to understand most of the articles in Mers book. I would read both, you can read both at one time, play some micro limit games as soon as you feel comfortable and just keep referencing Mersenneary's as you improve, you'll undersatnd more and more and hopefully before long the entire book will be easy to understand.
4) I don't think these will be particularly valuable for the time spent, but maybe someone else that has read them thoroughly can correct me if I'm wrong.
5) Heads up cash I'm not really sure, there's still good action at 50NL I believe, but once you get to 200NL and above it starts to get tougher to play games unless you face a lot of regs or wait a long time for fish. HUSNGs are a bit different on average, good players at every stake get actions, even nosebleeds.
How big are the differences in strategy between Limit and No Limit Heads Up Cash Games and Sit`n Go`s ?
- And which ones are more profitable taking the rake into calculation ? (generally speaking at micro and small stakes up to 100NL)
PS: - Is there any book/ebook dedicated to Limit Heads Up (cash and SNG) games ?
-Cannot give a definitive answer on which is more profitable, but Cash has MUCH higher rake than HUSNG. Also, there is alot more game selection/bumhunting going on so you spend less time playing. Thus, I find HUSNG more proftable
-The main difference with HUSNG is that you play short stacked, and must learn shove/fold play and how to play against 3 bet shove ranges
I don't think there are any HU Limit Holdem books but I could be wrong. Not even sure about HUNL, though you could apply a lot in the Mers Ebook, Tipton's latest book and even Moshman's original book to HU NL Cash.
