when holding 22-66 and A2o-A7/8o should i just be open jamming on the button or should i be opening for a raise as these hands are vunerable but are obviously stronger than your average holding. Answers for 10/20 and 15/30 please other levels just play themselves thanks :)
Hello HUalias,
I've just been thinking about the same thing for 25-14bb. The conclusion i come to is it's likely best to open shove against a good opponent so that you are not exploited by all the weaker hands that play much better post flop. However if i get enough stats to make me think i'm playing someone i have an edge against post flop, i'll take a min raise approach with the lower aces (i think shoving the low pairs is better). I'm just a micro stakes player just now but i think about the game ALL the time and there's my thoughts for what hey are worth, hopefully one of the pros can let me know if my line of thinking is ok?
You didn't wrote what format you play? Reg speed, turbo, hypers? For what is worth, I'm not a fan of shoving 22-66 at early blinds When you are playing with fish you will loose your edge if you have one:) because they will call you so wide, that most of the time you will be fliping or behind, and when you are minraising or limping those hands you can control the pot size and most of the time take it down postflop.
You didn't provide any information about opponents that you are worried about. Sure you can ask in general but you should pay more attention to type of player that you playing against.
I think that you can gain much more by just minraising, or even limping.
Few things that will work much better when you limp:
a) if someone is agrsv over your limps and will steal a lot, you can shove over a steal with low PP's.
b) when you have Arag and limp it, you will find that when A hits the board avg villain is more likely to float you with his worst hands just because he assumes that if you minraise a lot of your btn, your limping range don't contain Ax.
c) when you minraise all of your aces and your opponent doesnt have 3bets with better aces in his range it is very hard to play those hands when you hit and getting c/r on the flop.
d) I think that avg opponent on low stakes more often plays fit or fold at uncontested pots than on that when you minraise close to 80-90%. But its just my observation.
I think that format (reg, turbo, hyper) is important here as there is so much difference when you have 10min blind level and 75BB starting stack then when you have 500 chips and 3min;-) but nevertheless I'm not a fan of openshoving anything at 10/20 or 15/30 especially at regular and turbos. I don't play hypers so maybe some of hypers grinders have other advice:)
O.
its for HU hypers :)
22-44 we can be openshipping vs basically every opponent (44 is a bit close, 22-33 only in rare cases should we not jam). I think 55 and especially 66 are a bit too strong to just be openjamming though I guess we could consider it depending on villain. The weaker Ax are not going to be good openjams at all. When villains call we'll basically always be behind and we lose the value of playing them IP postflop.
thanks guys much appreciated
