Hello! I'm a university student and a new poker player, launching myself into the abyss of what poker theory is. I've started my quest just at the right spot (here), bought a video pack suited for my needs and now I look into poker programs.
I use a Macbook Air for playing. On the Mac I sometimes use a Windows Parallell. My dilemma consists in having trouble to choose between buying pokertracker for Mac or for Windows. I mostly play at Fulltilt, but in buying it for mac I limit myself to Fulltilt/pokerstars - which in my understanding seems to be alot harder than lets say random betting sites like WilliamHill or Bet365. I tend to play on Fulltilt, but my fallback if the competition is to good after I've learned playing is to take the defeat and crush fishes on fishsites. To buy on Windows does not limit me, but it limits the smothness and all that.
I hope you get my Point of View. The question I now ask is what you poker guys would recommend me doing?
Another is if its possible to have two installations w. pokertracker? If it would be possible to install via Winebottle (wine) I could buy Windows and install it on both of my operative systems.
Any tips in making me decide would be fully appreciable.
Kinds Regards.
PS. If someone sees me as a fun experiment to coach/help out in SnG HU just PM. I don't know any poker players as of yet unfortunately. DS
PS 2. Sorry mod if I have placed this topic in the wrong section. DS
I would personally go with windows as long as your parrallel works ok and doesn't lag much. That way, you can play on some of the other sites that are good (WH and 365 are both on the iPoker network, so same network, but there are plenty of other networks you might want to try in the future, like Winning Network's Black Chip/America's Room, or even Microgaming/MPN and Ongame... 888 or Party can work too though rake is too high usually for low to mid stakes players to bother with it in HUSNGs).
Make sure to buy PT4 through us, we have $10 off or 400+ videos free, whichever option you prefer.
I've got a macbook air too. Its mid 2013 I believe. I tend to use bootcamp for playing poker with pokertracker 4. Runs very fast with the SSD. Also you probably want to use bootcamp or paralells because if you play on pokerstars at some point as you climb up the stakes you need a little programme called sharkystrator which registers you for husngs and only runs on windows. Also there are other analytical programmes which only run on windows which you might want to get at some point. Basically i have a small bootcamp partition which i just use for poker and nothing else on my mac.
I bought Holdem Manager 2 not long ago, and they allow to install their software on 2 machines. If this is the case of PokerTracker (I guess they probably have a similar deal) you can install both on Mac and Windows. But you should confirm with support, particularly because they can have restrictions for multiple operating systems.
I also advise you to use Bootcamp instead of Parallels, since as you play the database can get very large and this will affect the performance of a virtual machine.
Are you going to buy the full version or the small stakes version? The later is very suitable for beginners, as it will allow you to use the software with a smaller investment. And when you need to upgrade, it ends up being at the same price as if you bought the full version directly.
Good luck at the tables ;)

There seem to be alot of sense in what you saying about Windows. Any special HUD you guys using for HU SNG games? Read a bit about CoffeHUD which is selling from this site.
Okay prob staying away from 888 & Partypoker. Guess im starting with FullTilt - I feel there is hard opponents there so good to learn first.

Hi.
I'm just researching using PT4 on Mac via as a virtual Windows set up. Do you need to buy a separate license ? Heres what PT support says about the issue -
Your PokerTracker4 code works on both the Windows PokerTracker4 and Mac PokerTracker4 so you wouldn't need to buy it again so long as you don't already have two PokerTracker4 installations.
If the Windows instance isn't a dual-boot setup but something like Parallels then you may want to see this for using the Mac PostgreSQL with the Windows PokerTracker4:https://www.pokertracker.com/guides/PT4/databases/postgresql-server-hosted-on-a-local-network
MrBeast87's advice about Boot Cam over Parallels might be relevant considering the link above ?
