Setting goals

I was reading about setting goals and noticed that its not recommended to set profit or volume related goals. So what goals then would be good and what goals do you guys have?

the best goal i use is time

the best goal i use is time playing not volume

i usually play for a solid 1-2 hour stretch then take a forced break (i work so i do this 1 per day and 3 times a day on weekends

during this time it is either playing or revising a recently played game

recognizing your own tilt factors is important and also having flexible goals that can revolve around this

ie if i play a few games and seem to have the games but cop bad beats and feel the tilt meter rising i change and review the games do some calcs on the bad beat hands thi usually informs me my play was correct or shows me where i went wrong and the tilt factor decreases and so i go back to playing

I like to set my goals with

I like to set my goals with time used for poker also.

so for example if I want to spend 2 hours every day with poker I can play for 90 minutes or so and spend the rest reviewing my game, learning theory, posting hands etc.

If i feel I start tilting or I just play bad I can increase the time spending time away from the tables and work on my game and still reaching my daily goal.

I don't think volume goals

I don't think volume goals are bad. I actually prefer this cause it a number we can control. Games played makes you much better than studying.

i dont think volume goals are

i dont think volume goals are bad either but for me time goals just work better because not reaching a daily goal can make me feel pretty bad and cost me a lot of momentum so for not feeling bad if I think i cant reach my volume goal this works better for me

imo it depends on you. For me

imo it depends on you.

For me a goal is something i can measure my poker journey with if I am on the right track and should give me a good feeling and some momentum when I cross it off. This is easier for me when I set time goals for me.

Some players I know use volume goals and its working out good for them. So I would suggest just testing volume for a week and time the other one and see if one or the other works better.
