The 8 on the river shouldn't

The 8 on the river shouldn't be a scare card, because your significant turn bet should scare away any random 8s, especially because of your preflop raise and your follow-through.  One useful detail would be your buy-in.  In a $115 or above, I feel like there's very little chance that your opponent holds an eight.  At lower stakes, I have a lot less confidence in this kind of read.  If you're at $115 or above, the only hand you can really worry about is AQ, but that seems pretty unlikely (recall, he limped).  In my opinion, that makes a small ace a lot more likely, or a diamond draw.  Then your question becomes what to do on the river.  Tough to judge the merits of leading versus check/calling, but his limp probably means it is more likely that he is drawing than he has an ace.  As a first hand, I'm check calling here and trying to give my opponent enough rope to hang himself with his busted draw.  There will be times you are missing out on a value bet here, but all of the passive signs point to a draw and mean that you're not going to have your river bet paid off very often if you lead.
