Hi,
Mico level. First time for me to have the oppetunity to sit the same player for 13 games.
Was great, ran pretty good for the first half with my "Hong Kong Phooey" style..... A style which you all know is unique ( Arf ! )
Anyway, my question is -
After running good for the first half I think I missed my chance to change my style before that nasty Villain over there began to addapt.
I was like - "Sh*t i need to do something before he cottons on to what im doing here".... but in my shame....I didnt know where to start.
Id used up all my tricks.
If i could have adjusted my game style after say, game 6, I could have crushed him, nicely of course.
So, I suppose this would be the next step for me to move on.
Any advice where to start looking ?
Is there somewhere where I can post a whole bunch of games for review, exteranl software, web site ) ( So I dont jam up HUSNG.com )
Many thanks for any advice.
You could record something like PokerTracker 4 replaying your games. That would allow you to upload to youtube and embed it into threads here.
I just calculated its approx 35minutes of play.
If I post the tournament seshion as a HH text file, could someone load it intpo thier own PT4 and then skip through at speed ?
Anyway, I think its too much to ask of the community.
I will go through it and try and find some spots where I could have done better....
I dont think my problem was adjusting to the opponant so much as adjusting to myself, if that makes sense ?
I was already min raising really wide and 3betting wide too, which dominated for the first half of the sesh. But once he realised he would get steamrolled he became looser himself... Then I didnt know where to go.
If I tightend up, he would be at an advantage...? ... I couldnt get any looser as I was already opening appx 80% of hands ( I would have to chk that stat )
So yeah... Im kind of like... where do I go from here ? How do I adjust when were both opening really wide and 3bett/shoving wide and often ?
Or should I just take a break and play another unknown ? Kind of boring, but after 6 games id lost my edge.
But the learning aspect is what is interesting for me, and this was a spot that was refreshing !
Thanks for the help :-)
Go forth and CRUSH !
first I would like you to be able to tell if at first you opponent did really try to adjust to you. You say that you ran well for the first half of the session. What are the odds it was all carddistribution for the first place. Most people on micros will have some static strategies that they are hardly able to stick to and ones they start to adjust somehow it will take a long time for them to do so and they will make huge mistakes doing it. You should be able to spot such things, like he started 3beting as a bluff (e.g. you saw show down and you are sure it was a bluff) or started to do something he didnt do before and makes sence that it could be him responding to some part of your strategy. Mostly I thing at the micros dont talk yourself in to fear of being exploited or thinking that your opponents will adjust to you. Mostly they will not.
1) Apparently he did try to copy your style (opening wide, 3bet wide). Naturally you should have been at an advantage. As I told you in another thread all ready it is important to know *why* you are doing, what you are doing.
2) Adjusting hmmm...it is a taff one. It is not that people would not like you to help but there are just to many things that have to be considered. If he opens wide, you can:
- fold (remember: whatever play other than folding you chose, it must gain you more chips - in the longrun - than folding does)
- call (important: how often does he cbet? if he does open 80% but does only cbet 30% of the times, you get free cards very often - or might even be able to steal from him)
- 3bet (important: how often does fold to your 3bet? If he folds a lot, you might be able to 3bet any 2 cards. If he calls a lot you 3bet strong hands who are unlikely to be outflopped (KQs) and 3bet shove the good stuff which might be outflopped (33...A4o), but is ahead against his range)
3) If you don't know how to counter a copy cat, this means that you have no idea of the weak spots in your idea and a reg might destroy simply because you realize to late, why he does what he does.
4) You got more opportunities here. For example; you should put your opponent on a range. If you have a sample size of 13 games you might wanna try, to figure out the mistakes in your ability to put him on a correct range.
5) Heads up is a very private game. You are playing against one single person. It is not like in a tournament with 3000 players where somebody eliminates you. This can get really personal. Once your ego has suffered, and you are likely to be on tilt, it does not matter if you are ahead of your opponent when you are at your best; right now you are not at your best. So leaving, might be also some kind of adjustment.
Hi.
Firstly Thanks for your help !!!!!!!
I went through the games and tried to gain some information. Ive just started using coffee yays HU Lite ( Thank You Adam ) So Im just learning how to read the stats, and going through these 13 matches obviously helped ! Secondly by doing this im being forced to use PT4 and I realise more now what a powerfull tool it is and should dig in more and more often.
I wouldnt of done any of this without the confidence to post here on HUSNG.com Thank you everyone for helping along the way.
I dont think i have got everything I can out of this few hours of study and need a bit of time to digest it. And go through and think about Barrins points.
Anyway -
I think Villain started to try to fight back after he lost three matches straight. I then made a huge mistake being over confident through the rush of winning and playing too aggressive and not paying enough attention to bet sizings and flop texture.
Then I think as 'metonezjima' replied in his post above, card distribution may have helped him win the last three games.
Stats from the whole session.
( How accuratly ive read this is open to discusion as its the first time ive really dug through all the stats )
From the Small Blind.
Villain is -
Opening 75.9% of his range. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 72.9%
Villain limps 45% of hands. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 8%
In limped pots he folded on the flop 41% of the time. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 51%
And folds to a pre flop 3bet 50% of the time. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 51%
Continuation betting the flop 100% of the time. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 67%
Betting the flop in 82% of his limped pots. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 61%
From the BB.
Flat: Villain calls your min raise from the BB 51% of the time. ///// ///// ///// HERO : flats 30%
Villain 3bets from the bb 28% of the time. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 23%
Raises from the BB your limps 50% of the time. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 32%
Fold to your cbet 46%. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 70%
donks 4%. ///// ///// ///// HERO 61% and limp donks 48%.
Afq. 58 %. ///// ///// ///// HERO : 68%
Villain limps a lot and folds to 3 bets on those limps often.
Villain likes to re raise your flop cbet and then is inclined to give up to barreling.
From Game 8.
The real 1st mistake was that you was 3 games in a row ahead and you was over confident.
2nd mistake was to not pay attention to him limping in and the THE FLOP being 322... DOH ! Face Palm.
You should have at least paused to think about it, and I dont think you did....
Game 9.
I jammed Q70 at 13.5 effective blinds - NASH says... 10.3 damn !
Game 10.
He won with a flush draw Ace high to your Jack.
Game 11.
Ran into min raised pocket Kings.
Game 12.
Ran into limped pocket Kings !!
Game 13.
Ran into pocket Eights. And he made a straight against my A2s jam from effective stack 9.2bb
NB: I had a rule once that I would quit after losing two games and not accept another rematch... that obviously went out the window on this one !
Anyway, Im gonna sleep on this and try again tomorrow.
Many Thanks again !
GAME ///// OVER
Go forth and CRUSH !
