Hi
Ive dropped down to 10$ buy in turbo on ftp (did play reg speed 20$ but wanted more volume) one thing ive noticed about my game is that i seem to take a little while adjusting to opponents in the turbos, probably beause i had longer before and this can sometimes cost me the first game. At these buy ins my normal villain seems to call v wide pre-flop especially early on and if they are aggressive maniacs which a large portion are at the stakes they will inevitably steel a few opens off me as im not comfortable 3betting them off their bluffs until i have some confidence/reads and i dont want to play a big pot early on with a mediocre/weak holding like middle pair.
To counter this and whilst at these levels and deepish stack play im now playing much more like a tag early on, trying to keep the pots small pre flop and flop. preflop limping my medium range, folding out the bottom part of my range and raising 2.5x for value with the top part of my range. Pretty transparent play against a good player i think.
Once the blinds move up i open up a lot more and try and use some of the info ive picked up earlier and 3 bet wider knowing that im probably ahead of their range and also fire more bullets from position knowing they are calling me down light.
Im concerned though that im turning into a nit early on, ill cover it in my next video with my coach but wanted some feedback here.
How much do you invest in chips early on before changing your stye for a given openent, i could be loosing loads of value but not 3x open and cbetting the flop and turn as i know they have a wide range, but i seem to win more at these stakes with the adjustments above. Players seem to be at such extremes, either super aggresive 3 bet 30% of their hands or passive, slow play everything. The fact that its very difficut to get some1 to play more than one game with you too doesnt help.
cheers
Oli
Yeah I have the same problem with the FTP turbos.
These types of players are very easy to beat when you limp in, but by the time you figure out they are agressive calling stations it is sometimes too late with FTP turbos.
Statistically these types of villians are probably still very profitable with 3Xing from the button, it is just you are going to have a lot
greater variance. You either crush them early or they crush you early.
I think you've got to make asumptions early and from there lower your pre-flop raise.
I actually managed to get someone to sit me for a few games last night, first time in ages ive managed to play more than a couple against the same villain, i went 6 - 0.... nice up swing but he was such a nice chap i felt bad.
It's ok to play transparent, it's not going to be easily picked up by weaker players.
As far as adjustments, as you grow as a player you'll likely make faster adjustments and start out much more aggressively.
I tend to raise more of my buttons early, but I'm comfortable and confident playing back at people very quickly and making some reads I could not make in the past without a ton of solid information to go on.
Often players are transparent themselves, so if they even hint at playing a certain way in one spot, I can usually utilize that profitably in another spot, allowing me to play more hands on my button in a profitable way.
Do what works for you, but keep in mind various adjustments while you play and grow as a player. You'll start to pick up on certain things earlier and in turn you'll likely get more aggressive on your button than you are now. If you're unsure but really want to explore, drop down a level or two and get really aggressive and adventurous, it can't really hurt, so long as you admit to yourself that it is a learning experience and you pay attention and make plays with logic behind them. It's not an excuse to spew, it's an exercise in learning.
Cheers Rypac, I had a good example of a game where i encountered this last night First hand the dude pushes all in and the alarm bells on top of my monitor starts going off "maniac, maniac, maniac". The villain was super aggro contesting the first 7 hands (obv watched 30mins of an 8hr durrrr match on utube) and 3betting two of them, also c/donk betting every time we hit a flop in or out of position. So within 7 hands i presumed he was capable of bluffing pretty much 100%, by about the 8th or 9th hand i was down to about 1200 chips, no great shakes but obviously i needed to pick a spot to play back and stop giving the loon chips. Given that my read was that he would bluff 100% of the time but obviously within that he could have just as many good hands as me what do u think about the hand below?
I think I was cutting it a little close to the edge here and this may not have been the best place to shuv but i did feel that his line didnt really add up, if he had top pair on the flop then the third club should have slowed him down a little, if he hit the flush why would he try and push me off the hand with a second pot size bet. if he had an overpair then great but he played everyhand that way so the dude must have been dealt aces 7 times in a row :)
I would say that this isnt a line i would normally take against someone who wasnt so obviously aggresive. i could have been beaten from the flop with just second pair but i had to consider that his range had more bluffs in than value. I was thinking about 3 betting his donk but im pretty sure he woud have flatted me and made my decision harder on the turn. With his pot sized turn bet I just figured, meh he's FOS the turn didnt help him and i think i was ahead on the flop so lets see. It worked out ok but for me the key question is did i assess the value of my hand incorrectly/correctly, i doubt its a yes or no question but comes down to the villain and the situation - im not sure anyone would advocate getting it all in with middle pair 40bb deep or whatever we were?

It looks like you did a fine job adjusting the value of your hand to your opponent.
You're right, normally this isn't great, but in certain cases it's fine. I don't have a problem with your line vs the given player.
