In the coaching bios I read things like Croix built up his roll to $100k and Primo never had to deposit after a small MTT score, but how long did it really take? From your initial deposit to a roll that allowed you to play the $100 HUSNGS, let's say, what was the time line? Looking for some inspiration, because it seems like these runs of bad luck come often enough to impede my roll building and the task seems so daunting at this point. If I am experiencing normal swings, I can't imagine how long it would take to build a real roll.
I built something like $150 into 5k+ in 6 months or so without playing a lot of volume or taking any shots with less than 20 buyins (sometimes 30+ buyins). I also moved up and down several times due to variance and bad play.
I am by no means the smartest, best nor hardest working person by a long shot in the poker world, so if my inefficient self could do that without any super great luck (besides the $33 level I don't think I had any crazy big results on my way up) then many of you are more than capable of doing even better than I did on that run.
Since then I've had my ups and downs, but my poker playing flaws, particularly focus and volume have hindered much further movement upwards beyond the lower high stakes levels ($115-$230).
So, what I think you should take from this, is that it is very likely that if you put in some hard work and strive to improve your game every step of the way, great results will happen sooner or later.
heh... tbh when I started playing HU SNG I went from $6s -> $100s in like 1 month or 1.5 months or something, but obv I moved up way too fast despite being rolled for it, had to drop down multiple times and re-examine, etc., etc., I've been playing HU SNG for about 2 years now, so I guess I would say after 9 months to 1 year I was a $110 regular, and at about the 1 year mark (last summer in vegas) I was moving to $200 reg speeds / 220 turbos
but people have done it much much faster, and also much slower, it depends on so many different things it's hard to really judge off another person
Yea, I went from $400ish to $6k in about 2 months IIRC. Could prob dig it up on 2+2 somehow. Took me a while to break through at $230.
Also IIRC, it took skilled_sox an extremely long time to get up to $115s even, then once he was playing $230, he was instantly in $570-5k.
I think I need to watch more videos....
