Pre-flop re-raises in high blind play are a spot that I've been finding myself a little unsure of what to do in.For instance, say opponent and I each are roughly even in chips (1500 and 1500) and blinds are 25/50. I min-raise to 100 with A3o. Opponent re-pops to 250. Now I'm looking at calling 150 chips to see 350, which is very compelling. But then we end up with in a situation where the pot is 500 chips and calling a standard c-bet would more or less pot commit me. On top of that, A3o has some reverse implied odds issues of its own. Is it best to just call and fold unless I hit the flop hard? Or is it OK just to fold here to the 3-bet pre-flop?Thanks much!
It's a bad idea to play fit or fold period and especially in a 3 bet pot with the blinds up like this. If you don't feel confident playing post flop in position then you need to rely on 4 bet shoves more, however in position you should be able to use your advantage here to put the pressure on and take down more pots than he does. With a hand like A3o though I'd probably push it here, you could be called and dominated but he'll often not have an ace when he calls and he'll fold a lot as well so overall that's usually the right play.
