Hello HUSNG.
My name is David and I just turned 18. I have been playing poker since last year and I have managed to lose quite a bit of money because of 5 reasons,
1. I can't stick to 1 game and see how I do over the long run
2. I tilt easily
3. I can't handle variance
4. I don't apply what I have learnt into my game
5. I'm lazy - which means I don't try to study poker enough and point #4 once again.
I have played every single format possible and I like and do well at Cash HU and MTT's however I do not have the time to spend 8+ hours a day to play a MTT.
The main reason why I have decided to study HUSNG is because it's easy to find a game, they are quick, you only face 1 opponent so in my opinion it's easier to get reads on him/her and exploit them.
I don't have a big enough sample size but I think that I am good enough to beat 1.50$ HUSNG at stars and maybe even 3.50$. All that I do when I play HUSNG is try to find whether my opponent is a TAG, LAG, tight passive, loose passive and I adjust my preflop game (Hardly ever adjust my postflop game, only if I see that my opponent is really tight passive I cbet often).
I didn't have enough motivation to do well but now I think I do have a goal that I would like to achieve which will help me try to exploit my opponents as much as I can.
I signed up to this forum to seek help from you guys in order to improve my game. I'd say my weak points are:
1. Not knowing what type of hands to call from the BB when I face a min raise from villain
2. I'm terrible at hand reading and finding any patterns/tells
3. Never bothered with calculating odds or expected value
4. I get crushed by LAG's
5. I do not try put villain on any range (don't know how to) and I generally don't think about why my villain is doing what he is doing after the flop.
and a few more points...
Right at this moment all I want to learn is ABC HUSNG strategy. I want to beat the 3.50's and possibly the 7's so that I can get a bankroll big enough to pay for a few training sessions with one of HUSNG.com's pro's.
I don't know if I want to play reg, turbo or hyper turbo sng's (reg are too slow, turbo are ok for me but I would prefer hypers however I find them difficult as stacks are so short)
I will start off by reading mersenneary's ebook.
Once I read the book and watch some vids etc. I will hope to play from 1000 to 2000 HUSNG at 1 stake and the same speed. Is this a big enough sample size to tell me if I am beating the stakes I'm at ?
Thanks for reading :)
great start reading mers' book
Nice summing up of your problems. What you said pretty much applies to the main issues of most poker players.
My bit of advice is if , as stated , you tilt easily and can't handle variance then stay away from hyper turbos.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I think by controlling the amount of games I play per day can help my tilt however I will play normal turbo games instead of hypers unless I find that I'm better at hypers than turbos
hi,
based on how you describe your problems, it seems you should be clever enough to do well at least in some games :D
1) You will not do well if you dont study the game. Def. read mersenneary's ebook and try to learn the most you can from it. Also read Mental game of poker that could help you with your tlit problems a lot.
2) learn the basic poker math and use it, again its impossible to do well longterm if you make fundamental mistakes in this
be honest to yourself and try to work hard because very few people are gifted enough to learn poker just by the attempt/mistakes system if you understand what I mean.
3) play much more than 2K better like 5k games before you check the results or even more becouse you cant expect to do well at the very start. I think turbos are best cause they will not bore you and you should play some deep games. I think its easier to switch from tubos to hypers than otherwise.

Thanks metonezajima,
I've read on 2+2 that 1k games is enough for the micro husng so I gave 2k thinking it would be enough. I think that just like cash games, you should try to get out of the micros ASAP that's why I will be planning to play as best as I can to beat both 1.50 and 3.50's without looking at how many games I've played.
I'm starting with mersenneary's ebook tomorrow :)
get to 7s asap, the fee is much better from then on :) of course, I dint play turbos for like a year or more but It will be the same skillwise, dont really expect players to be better than on 3.50s
