Gentlemen... a new fish has been tossed into your pool. That being said, where do I go to improve?

Hey all,

Man, I really love poker communities.  Anyways, my name is Dave and I'm just starting out in the realm of HUSNGs.  I played 9mSnGs in length and 10mDoNs for a long time, but school got the best of me and I had to retreat to my studies.  I graduated from university (somehow) and got a job overseas teaching English in South Korea immediately after.  Unfortunately, I've been so busy surviving and enjoying life that I've forgotten a lot about the game I loved.  Coming back I had an idea.  I really hated opening 20 tables and not focusing intently on any of my villains.  I also really hated the idea of folding AA preflop because the stack sizes will allow you to advance further.  That and... my favorite part of SnGs was getting heads up!  In fact, it's always been a guilty pleasure of mine.  I've always watched HU televised events and I kinda feel like they're the most about skill.  It's 1 on 1... and there's just something about it.  You're never going to get super odds to do something stupid, and your bad moves stand out that much more than they would have otherwise.  It seems like if you're a solid HU player, you'll be able to fundamentally understand all poker that much better.

Needless to say, that brings me here!  Here I am, husng.com.  I've decided to make a splash.  Maybe not the easiest money on Stars ATM, but I gotta be damn near close to it!

I was wondering what your suggestions are for an old grinder that wants to learn a new format (hyper turbos on stars), and if you can direct me to the most famous links/reads/videos.  I noticed no real "NEWBIES GO HERE" (which hopefully means there isn't one or else it's open season on me and I just got here) post, so I'm writing here.

Starting at the $1.50s and grinding up.

To celebrate your one month

To celebrate your one month anniversary in posting this, I thought I'd give you a reply!
How have things been going HU? I like a lot of what you say about HU, especially in the skills that you develop when learning HU (very applicable to other games, particularly postflop play, range development is a great one..).
As for things to help you start out, the free Mersenneary Ebook is a great place to look. The free poker videos forum has a lot of good stuff as well. Lower priced video packs that have solid material for beginners: Standard Pack (400+ videos from a wide range of authors), Coffeeyay Math in HUSNGs Pack (really focuses on making the essential math easy to understand and non intimidating, as well as explaining how to study the game and utilize poker software) and Sentin's upcoming video pack (about his rise from $1.50s through $30s in hyper turbos).
Posting the occassional hand, putting in some study time to work on building new skills and most importantly playing solid volume... those are the traits that should bring you success over the long haul.
