Help with low pockets.

Hi. Which would you choose, naturally this is a generalisation against random unknown. But I'd be interested in your views.  The scenario is you have low pocket pairs between 22 - 66. Hyper turbo micro stakes. option 1. Min raise  looking to make a set when the flop comes ?option 2. Jam jam jam ?Recently I have been favouring option 1 as I feel I cannot get enough value from just jamming. Just winning the blinds seems not enough.....So I'm now min raising and trying to get a set and gain more chips that way. I realise I might only achieve this 1 in 8 times or so... But I thought I'd ask how you might play this ...thanks for any insight.

It mainly depends on your

It mainly depends on your opponent. If your opponent does fold to a shove 90% of his hands and does fold 90% to a minraise as well, by shoving you take a risk not worth to be taken. There are many players who openshove 22-66 vs an unknown villain for a very simple reason: it is not -EV versus any range. If your opponent does call with a range that dominates you only, you have huge fold equity. If he calls very wide, you dominate his range and take the money by winning pots.If you do not know how and for what reason you should play 22-66 preflop or vs a 3bet you can stick with shoving.

No. I openraise 90 to 100%

No. I openraise 90 to 100% versus an unknown. I shove them once effective stack is <16bb. But then again, this is part of a complete default strategy. All i am saying is; don't make it to complicated. If you shove it: be sure to know that you are makeing an unexploitive shove and are aware that the moment you get called you are - most likely - behind / dominated; but this is just an issue of samplesize. If you decide to min-openraise it, be aware that you cannot set hunt 25bb. Even if you hit your set, you will not get paid everytime:- your opponent might fold to much to continuation bets- your opponent can hit a stronger hand- many more examplesThis is why you cannot calculate with the mathematical probability of hitting a set.

I know what your saying in

I know what your saying in your comments that the story is bigger than a "default stratergy" and I do take in what your saying, and remind myself as im playing that there are many facets unkown. And adjusting to this is the beauty of poker. But I dont have so much experiance and trying to stear yourself in the right direction in your learning is pretty tuff for me.So maybe looking for fixed truths is futile in the game of poker, but I need some foundations to stand on as I grow.So your insight into your game in your first sentace is really extreamly helpfull.Thanks.

There is always gonna be a

There is always gonna be a default strategy. And this default strategy is the starting point for adjusting. If you are playing versus an unknown you always are gonna use your default strategy. It's the same for anybody. If you wanna grow as a poker player, the most important thing might be to understand *why* you are doing what you are doing. You all ready started this kind of thinking (f.e. you want to set hunt, by knowing the math). But, especially when you have to focus on so many things at once because you are not haveing the biggest experience yet, there is nothing wrong with removeing one thing you have to think about versus and unknown and just openshove 22-66. Once you know the player and he is no unknown anymore you might wanna adjust your strategy.
