I found the hand with your opponent hitting trip 9s on the turn very interesting. You mention that you had a lot of history with him. I am wondering what his cbet and double barrelling frequencies are and whether knowledge of these could have prevented the expensive check bluff raise?

The opponent in that hand had a flop  cbet of 77%, and a turn cbet of 53%, however I had the following note:

*makes a lot of weird merge type 2brls

Meaning that he bets very thin on the turn. I'm not sure if this turn check was a random thing, perhaps a misclick, but it definitely doesn't and didn't seem the norm from this player. so no I do not think my play was bad, however looking back, I do think my sizing was too big, and settling for something around 3-4x his bet would probably be better.

When watching the hand the sizing looked horrible but I think you are being too harsh. Assuming he didn't have trips, which it sounds like almost always, your overbet looks like you could well have trips and are double bluffing, assuming he thinks you can play which he does, and so you are folding out almost everything but trips.
