Just Joined....Where Should I Go???

So I just subscribed an hour ago and I'm not terribly sure where a great place to start is on the site.  Does anyone have some suggestions of videos or places I should explore to sort of get a "from the ground up" training???

By the sound of things

By the sound of things Primo's series 'HU SnG from scratch' should be what you are after.  If you are completly new to HU i would almost certainly start there.  The brief on what the series is about is self explanatory.

RyPac has also done a vid on the endgame which i would strongly recommend.

Both of these should give you a solid grasp to get things started.  I  think this topic has been covered in the forum somewhere previously, so  just have a nose around as a may have missed some more good stuff out.

You're asking the right question at the right time

Greetings Fuz,

I wish I would have asked this same question when I first joined.  I've sort of fumbled around and tried all sorts of different learning tools.  As mentioned by legaless, you would do yourself an incredible favor by watching Rypac13's Endgame video (no. 9).  He makes a potentially complicated topic relatively simple (including how to properly utilize the Head's Up Push/Fold Equilibrium chart).  Most players (especially new or losing ones) botch the end game.  I know I have. This video is very valuable.

Also, I would highly recommend seeing if Rypac13 or some other coach would be willing to take you on as a client.  Maybe you should watch a few videos before you do this as you will have a lot more intelligent questions.  I had Rypac13 evaluate one game (a long one) and he provided me with some really useful insights-and he didn't use obscure terminology or difficult concepts.  His prices are very affordable as well.  You might want to click on the Coaching header and see which coaches seem more ammenable to your needs and budget.

As far as videos, what I've done is watch all the videos that I would have received if I just bought the 19.99 intro pack: Skates 1, xSCWx 5, PrimordialAA 1, Rypac13  no.4 and Croixdawg 9.  Additionally, I've added Rypac13 no. 9 (the most valuable to me) and Primoridal 13 (learning to multitable) as well as a video by Cog Dissonance.  I have tried to watch one video a night-if possible.  By watching it, I don't mean just letting it run from start to finish, irrespective of whether or not you understand the concept or are being distracted by people and things in your environment.  I would rewind and review parts that are confusing.

Ok, I'm done rambling.  Biggest points: 1: Watch Rypac13 no. 9 (the end game) as suggested by legaless and I.  2. Watch videos with the understanding that it's not the number you watch, it's how much material you absorb and really understand. 3. After watching videos and checking out the blogs/posts, you may consider hiring a coach to score your hand histories or watch you play a game.  4. Don't overwhelm yourself like I have by overdoing things.  Be reasonable in your expectations. 5. Maybe start a blog so you can keep yourself accountable and monitor your behavior. 6. (This is just a FYI for Rypac13 video 9: you can find the chart he uses at: www.holdemresources.net/hr/sng/hune.html.  You need to watch the video to understand how to use this chart.  Don't make the costly mistake I did!)

Good luck in your poker endeavors,

Jeffrey (who didn't really stop rambling when he said he was done)
