The Villian in this hand was a semi-nitty TAG, I later saw him flat my 3bet with J9o though and he had called me down after I bet the turn and river on a 4A5KQ board and I was the preflop raiser so he had some random moments. No Limit Holdem Tournament • 2 Players$6.00+$0.25 Hand converted by the official HUSNG.com hand converter SBMCMV19051470 BBHero1530 Effective Stacks: 74bb Blinds 10/20 Pre-Flop (30, 2 players) Hero is BB MCMV1905 raises to 60, Hero raises to 180, MCMV1905 calls 120 Flop (360, 2 players) Hero bets 220, MCMV1905 goes all-in 1290, Hero folds Final Pot: 1870When he flatted I put him on either a pocket pair 77-QQ or A9+. I cbet the flop because he folded a fair amount to cbets, and the board was unlikely to hit him and I could probably fold out 77-99. When he shoves I have to put him on at least 99+ and have to fold this, right?
Hey,The c-bet can't be bad for sure, on such a dry board and in a 3bet pot. I think you might have his ranges a little off though. Unless you have some strong read that suggests otherwise, he's probably shoving QQ and JJ over your 3bet. If he's not then it's probably to trap and then you should put KK and AA in there too. And he's probably calling with a few more hands like KQ, KJs for sure and maybe some suited connectors. I also don't think there's anyway he's folding 77-99 on this flop.So anyways, the way you should approach this hand really depends on those ranges that you put him on. If you are confident on the ranges you gave up there then the c-bet actually doesn't look so good because his range consists on a lot of pairs that aren't going to fold. If we assume he's calling with some more unpaired hands then the c-bet is good to make him fold those. Against a lot of looser players this would actually be a decent value-bet spot, for either bet-calling or check-shoving.Now, as played, once he shoves it's just a math question. You have to call 1070 for a total pot off 2940, so you need 36,4% equity for a call to be profitable. Now you should play with Pokerstove and see how you're doing agaisnt his ranges. If he's only shoving pairs, say 77-QQ then you have 24,7% and it's an easy fold. If you assume he's got a few more unpaired hands in his range and he's shoving any flush draw too it gets a little closer, and if he can ever be bluffing then it might actually be a call.Hope some of this helps!
The ranges look a little too tight.Maybe I read it wrong, but I wouldn't expect 77-99 to ever fold on this dry of a board, especially when the only hands it loses to are 66, overpairs or a ten.Comments above are good. I'd call the shove against plenty of guys, but a tighter/nitty player that doesn't bluff this spot you'll just have to fold and that's OK.
