I am Belgian but hold residency in Australia as well.
Pokerstars advised me to swap from the .com platform to pokerstars.be
I played my last husng 3 months ago in Asia and recall the rake being 4%. I just downloaded the .be platform and saw that rake on micros is almost 6% now. 5.75% to be exact
Is this only the case for the .be client or is it universal? I know that pokerstars likes to capitalize on players that are clueless about rake, but they can't fool me into playing husngs with almost 6% rake
PokerStars has the lowest rake out of any major poker room.
I do agree that the rake is too high across the poker world, but Stars is the lowest out of the major sites (Party Poker, 888, iPoker, Ongame, Microgaming).
For your specific situation, I believe your government in Belgium requires the special .Be client and charges sites a high amount of taxes. The sites then raise the rake in order to pay those taxes and still be as profitable as they would like.
I would suggest not playing on any site with high rake, emailing the site to let them know, then emailing your government representatives and letting them know the taxes are too high.
