Hi new people for May!Glad to have each of you as part of the program. It's Sunday and I'll be out and about most of the day - I look forward to answering all initial questions tonight and Monday morning/afternoon. Feel free to make your personal discussion threads and start reading through all the material.
I think it'd be cool if you could post a sticky with a list of everyone's thread and what stakes/format it is, so everyone knows which to follow closely.Just a thought :)
+1 on nico's idea. I tried to get a thread going last month where the students did this but not too many people replied.I'm still waiting on Cake & Merge to add 500 chip HU STs (God knows Bodog won't) & haven't played a HU SNG since 4/15 so my stakes/format is 6 man STs & turbos. :( I guess you can count me as HU STs though.
Good call. I'll do the organization when I get the chance.I'm mostly coaching this month, picked up an extra middle school math student, will be playing on Merge mostly just to make videos. Next month I'll be in Vegas for the WSOP.
lol I thought u were talking to mers too, but ya he's obv self centered. :)Right now I'm playing 6 mans. I was mixing in merge but I think I'm done w/ that til they add HU STs. The games were pretty much all decent/good regs on Merge, and while you can still profit vs these regs in HU, this simply isn't the case in 6 mans when the regs outnumber the randoms. I have a lifetime deal w/ Cake so most of my action will be there. They're starting a prop program where players can earn 50% rakeback on SNGs & MTTs so hopefully that will help boost traffic as well as the eventual implementation of some more structures. I'll be playing 6 mans there & bodog for now. It's far from ideal but I should still be able make a healthy living. I'm also in charge of referrals for the tourney prop program & am getting a cut of each player's MGR that I refer, so that should help.Once Cake and/or Merge add the 500 chip HU STs I'll have to see what kind of stakes/volume I can get in those vs 6 mans & weigh my hourly. On FTP I would have made more in HU STs, but we'll see how things run cause I have ridic rakeback on Cake & I will likely be able to rake more in 6 mans. We'll see. If nothing else this month will help my HU game in 6 mans & I'll help fund Mersenneary's WSOP entries. I don't expect to be too active on the forum this month unless 500 chip HU STs get added to those sites & I'm playing them a lot, but I figured I would signup anyway cause last month was amazingly good.I could certainly make far more money moving out of the country, but I'd also be leaving friends & family & the wife would have to be on board as well. It's still an option in the future, as is renting an apartment in Canada to commute to for days at a time (I live in MN so nearest Canadian city is about 5 hrs away), but for now I want to see how everything shakes out & get a better idea of what kind of money I can make with the current climate of online poker in the US.I would ask what your plans are but I'm pretty sure you aren't from the US. MBN!GL,Hub
Cool that sounds like a good plan. If you can make good money that way, I don't know I get the feeling the US market is not gonna take super super long to get better. Some good regs have moved fast though, Rams for example is from Italy now :)Cool you're still here anyways. And yeah no impact for me, feeling lucky :)Cheers.
Hi all,Today is a bit of a crazy day for me - I might not be able to respond until late tonight or tomorrow morning my time. Keep the posts coming though!mers
Also: I believe I've struck a deal with PrimordialAA and HokieGreg. Unless it falls through, they'll be in here from time to time commenting in exchange for their bootcamp students having access to the forum (they don't get their own HH threads, but can comment on articles and read the forum). It'll be nice to have them around.
hey man, this is the place to ask general questions i guess? i was wondering if it would be possible for you to whoop up a table, or a short article like, that explains those math situations like (this is going to sound retarded) but those we need villain to fold X % of the time for this bluff to be succesfull, or we need to have Y % equity vs his range to call here and effectively be pot committed, i never really learned that stuff, and i feel like its pretty huge in STs ...
I know we've had a lot of endgame specific stuff recently, so I want to make sure turbo/reg speed (although you guys have endgame too!) people don't feel alienated. Make sure to check out May's articles about 30-75bb play. I'll have some more deeper stuff this month, but always feel free to post your own threads about topics you want covered and ask questions in your threads.
Yeah that's something I've thought about doing an article for in the past, it's just a hard topic for me to collect my thoughts on. I'll be thinking about it.
i was wondering if, (in case u havent done so already) it would be possible, to pin the articles, i realise this will take up alot of front page space, but its really annoying to see a GREAT article i didnt read because i was too busy with real life stuff dissappear onto the further pages, and maybe never been read i realise this might not be the greatest idea, but in case u dislike it taking up so much front page space, could you perhaps create a new topic, in which u edit OP and link all the articles in that one? like just the mersenneary fasttrack articles. i would find it v handy
Hey all,I'm on vacation this weekend and will be extremely slow getting back to posts and emails. I'll be able to answer all questions on Monday and Tuesday, as well as get everybody their HH reviews, etc. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hey Mers,Last month there was a lot of very technical stuff about SB play really short, with the chubukov article and follow-ups, that was really awesome.I was wondering if you could do something this month about very short BB play too. I realise this is more complicated because there's the added variable of what the SB has done before you have your decision, but still, something like what hands nash is a good aproximation for in terms of stack for calling an openshove and which are way off, which hands are very dependant on villain's shoving range and which aren't, etc. I think that'd be very useful. There are other things that could be thrown in this topic too, like a deeper analysis of flatting hands really short (<12bbs maybe), which I've seen discussed in more than one thread but never super deeply, also reshoving vs people who mr very short or shoving over limps vs people who do that, and how those things affect the ranges for calling openshoves considering the shover's range is different, etc. Plenty of interesting stuff for some articles here imo.
If I could ask for one last strategy article before I may be forced to leave (check the last post in my threat, it's really sad), maybe I could suggest "dealing with absolutely non-understanding family" ?
Mers, I need your advice ...Do you think I should use July to learn SuperTurbos or keep grinding normal Turbos ? And if I do take the ST path, with level would you recommend me to start at (my BR is at ~$9k at the moment) ?Or is there even any reason to be afraid about not getting enough action at $100 / $200 anymore ?My biggest problem with switching to ST's now is that I'd basically have ~2.5 weeks to learn how to crush really hard ... is that even possible ? And if takes much longer, then you won't be there anymore when I need you the most. And if I screw this up, then I'd have wasted an entire month of super profitable income plus some 20+% of my current BR.But if I keep playing Turbos and these aren't playable anymore at all in a month due to complete lack of fish, then I'd wish I leared ST's while I still had the time.Really unsure what to do.
I think with your skill set and situation, I'd recommend keep playing turbos. I don't expect a complete lack of fish. You can always learn endgame concepts and get yourself more ready for STs, too, it's not just one or the other.
Hmm, I really hope today will be the exception.Just extremely difficult to get any action at all. Not sure whether that's only a temporary issue because all fish are not excited and jumping onto the new format to test it out.I'm also afraid I'll need to postpone my planned shot at $200. I deposited $500 yesterday to get that reload bonus, already fully cleared it and then decided to take these 3 buy-ins for a shot. But now I can't do it anymore because every $200/$300 reg would immediately jump onto that new "fish" who's sitting in their lobbies the first time.Well, I guess I'll just sit some more regs at the $100's in future and see how that goes.
I already did :-)It's also really cool that you now added an our of private coaching, that's really great.

Hey,I was asking JHUB but great to know what you're doing anyways :)
I'm just so self centered I assume everything is about me.

Also, Barewire will be around, too.
What kind of commenting they will be doing?
Whatever they feel like, no guarantees those donks have anything interesting to say :p

Sure. I'll write a basics article about that this month.

Hi Mers,I think "time tells" is a topic we haven't already discussed. What do you think, is it important enought for a thread or even an article?
Yeah that's something I've thought about doing an article for in the past, it's just a hard topic for me to collect my thoughts on. I'll be thinking about it.
Does the forum will be open next month?
Good question. I'll have news regarding that soon. I expect I'll be taking a reduced number of students, with current students getting first priority.
Great let keep us updated :)
Any plans on making an option for "lurkers"?
See the "I want your opinion" thread for that discussion, but in short, yes :)
Taking Sunday off - Threads will be updated in full tomorrow.
OK fine - I couldn't help but make up a couple tables and an article on my day off. I will get back to threads tomorrow as stated, though :p

The OP of this thread has the prior articles linked - I'll go ahead and link this month's there now.

confirmed workaholic
Interested in a particular article topic in June? Let me know.
I´d still like an article about time tells, if it's possible for you.
OK, cool. My incubation process on that one is developing :)

OK, sounds good. Check out Champaz's thread for more thoughts about flatting short.

:(Let's talk about this over email/skpye, it's going to be highly sensitive to your personal situation.
There was some minor restructuring of the forums, an old bookmark to this forum may be inactive now, re-set it and it should work fine.
Hey Mers, I'd like to be here also on July, can you tell me the FTP screename I should transfer the funds?I can't find the previous month email ...
Still organizing that.
ok, let me know something about ;)
where do i send you the 30mins of HHs for review ?
mers@husng.com works.

Mers are you going to schedule the sweat sessions? I don't see anything on the forum so I thought it should better to ask you
bump
Going to try to get as many sweat sessions as possible done this next week - will keep you posted.
