what does it take to beat high stakes?

i've played over 1k hu sng's mostly at the micro's and mostly back in 06. i had some success at the $5-$6 games but never studied the game and routinely jumped in bigger games (as high as the $200's) when i was losing. i didn't have the discipline to win back then.past couple days i have played a few at the $21 level and have found the competition to be much softer than i remember from 06. possibly my game has improved over the years to make me feel this way or maybe i just got lucky to sit with some bad players.so now i'm wondering... at what point did you decide to move up?how about bankroll requirements as you move up and your expected ROI goes down? how many buy-ins are you comfortable with?

I used 30-40 for the $5-20s

I used 30-40 for the $5-20s initially, then anywhere from 20-50 until hitting the $115s, didn't really think much about bankroll after that, but I also didn't get to full time status so $500+ regularly wasn't a real option.  I would mostly take shots at $230+ with action sold or against weaker players.I've been in the "make sure you can move down before you lose half your roll, and don't be afraid to take a shot" camp.  xSCWx's bankroll article (the oldest article in the free > articles section) is pretty good too.
