He is probably just playing his cards instead of trying to adapt to the line you are taking or your style of play. I usually just 3bet the shit out of them.
That was my plan until it turned out he was increadibly loose (or catching a lot of cards) and I ran down to around 800chips pretty quick, I guess this was just a one-off though.

what $ was the buy in? if it was $30 he probobly just did get some cards
