Hey everyone,
I just joined this site and have been a 180 grinder for some time. I switched to HUsngs at the very end of last month to become basically a better player all around. I'm pretty excited this site is up and that it already has a lot of content. Ive been a member of grinderschool, pxf, pokerpwnage and content wise this place already rivals.
Sage:
I know what sage is but I guess I am a little confused on when to use it. Just to get into the swing of things I am going to play 500 $10 HUsngs and then switch to $20 and play 500 of this this month. My goal is to play 1k matches a month and this seems to be pretty do-able (I will be playing the turbos).
But from my understanding SAGE only needs to be used when you face an opponent who is better than you. I am by no means great at this game but it seems like exploiting leaks would be better? I guess I am just a little confused on its application overall.
Variance Calculator:
This is a very noob question but how do you determine your winrate in HUSnGs? It askes for a specific percentage and I guess I don't know what to insert.
Goal of HU:
I will be facing an opponent and I will ask myself what is the goal here. Yeah I understand it is to beat the person sitting across the table from me but I try to remove "win" and "loss" from my vocabulary as much as possible. So does that mean the basic rule then is to outlast your villain as the blinds increase?
This question came about from a forum I was reading the other day where a pretty respected player said "if you have a 2-1 chip lead, you should not be focusing on how to knock him out". I guess that kind of confused me and coming from 180's this seems opposite of my thought process.
Anyways thats for reading and sorry for my first post being to long :-)
-I'm going to skip the SAGE one because the explanation will be kind of long and someone else can probably word it better than me. Speaking of people wording it better than me, you can start by reading this:
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/58/heads-up-nl/finishing-opponent-head...
-You need to know how many games you have played and how many of them you have won. Divide the amount of games you have won by the amount of games you have played. A Sharkscope subscriber can tell you how many you have played and how many you have won or lost.
-Your goal in HU should be to make as much money as possible. This tends to involve winning as often as possible (this is probably what you were asking) and winning in as little time as possible (I think that your hourly wage is more important than your ROI).
Thanks for the link, it was very informative. I guess what still is kind of confusing is the nash vs chubukov. Nash is dependent on villains calling ranges and chubukov is just a stand alone for +EV jams? I've used nash for a bit but almost all of the villains I face don't call accordingly. So I guess I have been losing value then?
Idk why this started posting in bold half way through lol.
Chubukov is unexploitable if you were shoving with your hand face up. Nash is a lot more applicable to games because it is unexploitable while shoving with your hand face down.
I'm not sure what you are asking in the second part though, could you rephrase it?
you can even push a little bit looser as nash says if your opponent calls way to tight, but be carefully if you overdo it he is going to call you with a wider range.
I was just asking if I lose value using Nash if the villain I am shoving into isnt calling according to Nash.
The nash calling range is optimal against the nash shoving range, so I'm pretty sure that if they aren't following the calling range while you are using nash then you are gaining value.
This math stuff isn't really my thing though.
That seems to go along with what I knew previously about Nash but that article threw me through a loop :-)
VARIANCE QUESTION
Didnt feel the need to create its own thread so Ill just post here...I was digging around sharkscope and playing with the calculator and saw some pretty huge down swings. What contributes to such massive swings (just simply running good/bad, -ev plays etc)? I feel like the variance for 180s is different than HUSnGs. I mean you cant fold into the money or abuse any bubbles so your play has to be much more solid. I guess I am just generally curious about what things weigh more heavily on variance for HUSNGs.
I don't think that the variance calculator is totally accurate with what to expect from swings because most people play different stakes and also everyone's winrate fluctuates.
When your games in the variance calculator are calculated it is something like:
57% winrate - $10 stakes
57% winrate - $10 stakes
57% winrate - $10 stakes
57% winrate - $10 stakes
57% winrate - $10 stakes
57% winrate - $10 stakes
In reality, it is more like:
54% winrate - $10 stakes
56% winrate - $20 stakes
57% winrate - $20 stakes
54% winrate - $10 stakes
60% winrate - $10 stakes
57% winrate - $10 stakes
Even if you aren't jumping around in stakes, you won't have the same winrate against each opponent continually. You will have different edges on different opponents and even if you are playing against the same opponent your games will adjust against each other at some rate.
