Calling vs a low % raiser with bad holdings...

No Limit Holdem Tournament • 2 Players Hand converted by the official HUSNG.com hand converter BTNPlayer11545 BBHero1455  Effective Stacks: 24bb Blinds 30/60 Pre-Flop (90, 2 players) Hero is BB Player1 raises to 120, Hero calls 60   Flop (240, 2 players) Hero checks, Player1 bets 118, Hero raises to 450, Player1 goes all-in 1425, Hero calls 885   Turn (3000, 2 players, 1 all-in)   River (3000, 2 players, 1 all-in)   Final Pot: 3000Villain has almost always limped from the button, so I know he has a nitty-strong range here.  Maybe JJ+, AK or a little wider.  Do you think it's correct to call as wide as 85o here vs a min-raise in hopes of flopping a monster?

I think is bad, 8-5o is as

I think is bad, 8-5o is as abs as they come...unless you hit trips or 2 pairs, you are just folding on the flop. plus you said you put your opponents on a good hand. You might get lucky once, but you have terrible reverse implied odds and in the long run just throw chips away.

Fine hand after the preflop

Fine hand after the preflop call, but I think calling with 85 is not a good idea vs this type of opponent (or really vs any). You're also shorter stacked in these blinds, effectively, so 85 is even worse of a hand to call with vs a strong range of hands. If the guy played extremely weak or something like that, I could see justifying light calls OOP, but in that case you could justify calling just about any two cards OOP, and those types of reads are rare to come by and usually a result of many matches vs the same type of extremely weak opponent (again, not common).

Yeah, I thought it was a bit

Yeah, I thought it was a bit too loose as soon as i clicked.  How low do you think you'd call vs someone that only raises with a tight unbalanced range?  Esp min raising?  I'm currently calling with most suited connectors, and quite a few suited-gappers as well as all pairs here.  And apparently with 85o sometimes--though I'm trying to get better ;).

He minraised here and you

He minraised here and you flat called, correct?  I'm confused about your question with 3betting, unless you were asking a question unrelated to this hand.

Sorry... i meant min-raised.

Sorry... i meant min-raised.  Too many poker hands dancing in my head today.  (corrected reply to make sense).

You can widen your range

You can widen your range against a min raise versus a larger one but not this much.  However a lot of this has to do with the way your opponent plays post flop, if he's loose passive for instance you can play more hands since you are going to be in less difficult spots and you can play fit or fold pretty much.  This actually brings up an interesting topic, we know that in a vacuum you're getting odds to call with any hand here, however that's not the only consideration and the problem is that unless you're a very good player you're going to be making mistakes with these poor hands often, either ditching the better hand or being value towned with hands that are behind.  The best thing to do is to toss this garbage and hands like it and make the game easier, the better you are in terms of relative advantages over your opponent post flop the wider you can call, but keep in mind that fish tend to call too widely here because they don't understand this and you definitely don't want to be losing money on balance with any hand you're calling with.
