Here are 5 things you can do to make sure you make the most of your time here:1. Read the resources I've compiled here already. That includes the articles, the recommended reading list, and the personal threads, especially those that are similar to your game and stake. It's hours of personal coaching that you have access to.2. Ask questions. Yes, this means ask HH questions in your thread, but also, ask questions in other people's threads when you don't understand. Maybe you don't agree with advice that I'm giving - rather than just say "well, he's mersenneary, he must know what's best" and not say anything, challenge me! Being humble and not ego-driven doesn't mean you can't think I'm wrong or just ask me to clarify so you understand it better because you're not convinced yet. Sometimes I'll be wrong, but more importantly you'll get a much better understanding of the errors in certain thought processes. Which leads to my next point...3. Think about how specific advice applies to more broad situations. If I tell you to bet/call a 998 flop with AQ, think about why that might be, and how it changes if the board is different and our hand is different. Think about why the logic works - don't just stop at learning which logic is correct in a specific situation. If all you learn from that 998 board is what to do on 998 boards with AQ, that's much less valuable than improving your thinking about the general situation.4. Learn from your fellow students both inside and outside of the forum. I've learned a lot from studying smart people on forums and asking questions, but a massive chunk of my own improvement has come from having people on Skype or AIM to talk about hands as they're happening and get better with. If you see someone here who seems pretty similar to you in games and stakes, check if they're interested in swapping screennames. Play some 4-mans together. Comment in each other's threads. 2+2 and other forums can be a cesspool of people who aren't serious about getting better, so take advantage of the fact that people here are.5. Try to post about common spots that you feel unsure about. Posting about hero calls with complex reads in unique spots makes for interesting discussion, but it's likely not going to lead to a huge boost in your income. The basics aren't sexy, but they're the biggest place that we're going to find opportunities to make meaningful changes in your game. Think in terms of frequencies and how to react to frequencies and sizing against opponent's ranges. These are where the biggest leaks will be. I'm a big believer in fluidly moving up and down between stakes and not considering yourself a "$x reg", but for the purposes of this list, I just picked a buy-in you play. Feel free to post and have me update the list if you no longer play that buy-in but it's really just a general idea for people who are more interested in threads from people somewhere around their stake levels.
I will miss some questions btw sometimes, if I skip over one, just let me know.
Hey I think I"ll be sticking to ST's this month, right now I'm playing the 35s so if you want to group me with the other ST ppl for the group session that's be great thanks.
Done!
Feel free to post and have me update the list if you no longer play that buy-in I just noticed that if you click on the upper-left part of the forum there's a "Edit" button, even if I'm not a mod, I was able to modify you orginal post (I updated the current stake I'm playing). So there's no need to notify you :), players can make their own changes as they wish
Hey, that's cool. I didn't know that was even possible. Is that for all OPs?
Omg, that actually works ! Never would have gotten even the idea to edit someone else's post because all my experience just says that you have to be a mod to do that ....Anyways, fixed the link to point to my May thread, not the one from April.
Omg, that actually works ! Never would have gotten even the idea to edit someone else's post because all my experience just says that you have to be a mod to do that .Now, you got that power :DObv, no need to fix that, we aren't jerks so we aren't going to edit others posts without a real solid reason
Is it only the OP of stickies that you guys can edit?
Oh, I see. It's everywhere for OPs. Hmm.
Something makes me think jacktheshipper used that edit function... or maybe archie trying to make it look lik JTS...
dunno why, just get that feeling :)
quick and fast recognized, my respect nico. not bad for a 5$ baller...
This unsupervised wiki like editing feature should now be disabled.Report any crazy shit going on still to Mers so we can fix it.
Oh, boo, you're no fun.(thanks)
I renamed my thread to http://www.husng.com/content/jack-oneill-dialing-9th-chevron, could you please fix that in the directory ?The old name had the word "May" in it and I'd like to reuse it for June.
Done!
By the way, now I don't have access to change Valuelol's mischief in putting me at 5$ STs :) Can you do that please? May was around 80% 200s, 20% 100s/350s for me.Cheers.
Wow, you moved up quickly! What a success story all the way from the $5s!
Hey Hokie/mers,It would be nice to have a list of everyone who has read-only priviledges here, along with the full access students. I'm cool with it existing but I think it would be fair to know who has the power to read your coaching interactions. Is that doable? Thanks.
+1This has already been suggested by Valuelol in the August Future thread, and I'd also really appreciate this.
Could you please update the OP with all the new student's threads - and also move those who're no longer in the program to a special section ?It's kinda difficult at the moment to find out who's still in and which games they're playing.
