HUSNG.com Transitioning into Daily Free Content + Video Packs, Away from Memberships
Beginning on October 1st, the site will change from a membership tier setup into a free content + video pack setup. New paid videos will be a part of video packs, focused on specific game types, concepts and buyin levels. Daily content will be in the form of free video clips, previews of video packs, full strategy videos, articles, interviews, high stakes reports, poker room reviews, news and more.
The premium membership will still be available, but in the form of a video pack. All 800 videos will be available for a price of $150 and will result in access to these 800 videos for 3 months (with the same downloadable format so users can save videos for future viewing). The standard membership will turn into a pack that will cost $50 for 3 months access to all 400 videos, similar in setup to the premium membership. Neither video pack will see new content added.
New video packs in the first few months will include hyper turbos of all levels, turbo speeds of all levels, heads up cash, a mental game video pack, a math pack and a video pack geared towards playing a specific type of HUSNG opponent. Future video packs will cover even more heads up topics.
Other pieces of information:
- Users with previous 1 year memberships will be given value greater than their remaining membership (video packs adding up to more than their remaining membership). They will be notified in the first week of October individually of their options.
- Rakeback/poker room signups through HUSNG.com will still be able to receive free content each month. Video packs will have various minimum monthly rake requirements attached to them, as the memberships do now. Requirements will vary, but will be similar to the current offerings (the $25 standard membership requires $100 in monthly rake to earn a free month).
- Video previews, clearly labeled descriptions and higher quality and more focused production is what you can expect on each video pack.
- Video packs will generally be 3-5 hours in length, though exceptions will likely come up over time.
- Video pack pricing will range from $20 to $100s of dollars, based on the quality, buyin level and length of the content.
- A specific members only forum for all your video pack questions, to be answered by the coaches, will debut October 1st.
- Roughly 20 new pieces of free content will be put up on the site each month. This is not a set in stone number and it may exceed 20.
- These changes are being made to better serve customers and coaches. Customers want specific types of content that vary drastically from person to person. A "one size fits all" (or two size fits all" method is imperfect. Coaches want to be attached to success, in the form of revenue sharing, and want to be held accountable for quality. These new changes aim to solve those two weaknesses of the current format, while further growing the site through the regularly updated free content model.
- Specific lists of videos to debut in October, beginning October 1st, will be made available prior to October 1st.
- Any questions can be made in the comments section below or emailed to membership@husng.com.
hi ryan,
i'd like to ask about packs to be released in the foreseable future:
- a pack is intended to be a sort of structured material (like chadders pack) or is more likely to be only gameplay?
- generally speaking is a single coach product?
- any detail about hypers packs (high stakes/advanced stuff) to be released?
- ive the impression that with this new format the price for video released over the year will be higher expecially for
the old premium members. i mean before this change we paid about 550$ for one year premium membership,
im pretty sure this sum of money will not cover the new site one year release content.
its true that the majority of players have only one main game but at the same time keep the eyes open on different games
and structures was overall a nice plus of the old site.
thanks
- Similar to Chadders pack.- Usually a single coach, we only so far have plans for a guest coach 30-60 minutes in a few packs that will be released this year.- Chadders is remastering his pack (adding some full new footage and adding some summaries of each video with a year later perspective). We have two high level hyper packs in the works as well, but they aren't quite near completion so I'll tease them when appropriate.- Correct, the price for buying everything total will be higher. However, the quality of content will be a lot higher. This format will allow me to get something like consistent H2Olga videos, since he has more incentive to produce (revenue sharing options with coaches). This format will also allow us to get better focused videos too on a consistent basis, not just 80% gameplay videos like the membership setup ends up being (I could pay for concept videos in the membership format more often, but it would end up creating even more delays on video schedules, something that was getting out of hand to begin with). And when I say higher, I mean if you bought everything for the next 12 months. In the next 12 months we may also end up with more hours of content than we previously released too, but the reason for costing more to buy every single thing would be the added focused content that we'll have to the site. Long term, it probably allows us to get a 5 hour pack out of a very high level player versus one or two guest videos over a 6 month period. There's been several successful players that have made videos here, had a fine time, but found even if they were paid 150% of their rate, they still wouldn't have a ton of incentive to make videos regularly. A lot of guys I just had a good relationship with and even though they were paid very well, a lot of reason they did a video or two was probably to appease my constant questions and semi nagging.Under this system, they are 100% tied to success, so if they don't like their pay, it's going to be due to a lack of sales directly on the product that they create. And my time will be freed up some from the rigors of membership video scheduling to where I can help guide players creating packs and I'll have plenty of time to work on making sure there are clear video previews, detailed descriptions and exposure to the marketplace.Overall these changes should result in a higher level of quality for members, specifically mid to high stakes players that want more higher level content consistently up on the site.
Hi, "This format will allow me to get something like consistent H2Olga videos" : any info about this ? is it free videos, a coaching page, an HT pack or something else like some sort of new fastrack ?
I can't really announce anything until we're very close to completion/I have content in my hands, since too often things get delayed behind the scenes and I don't want half of the stuff I talk about timeline wise to be delayed (long time members have seen this happen at times).
I can say that several players of high caliber have committed to doing video packs, and some are even in the process of making them and H2Olga remains a high priority to move forward as soon as possible.
Thanks Ryan. I'm very interested in such a video pack. I'll be waiting for it :)
Will you be making one giant (or several large) zip file(s) for the existing standard and premium packs? This would save a lot of clicking on links for people buying them...
We may look at doing this in the near future, but probably not until after the first month of free regular content + video packs. We'll monitor our hosting space, that way we can better estimate what a change like that would cost us in terms of space.
Will you rework the membership-system in a way that will allow non-subscribers (there is currently no more monthly subscription option) to receive private messages and the likes or are those - still - gonna be junk-mail-cursed?
Hi.
If we can work it out, having a minimum post requirement would work out fine for PM access. What we want to avoid is any non member being able to PM, due to spam and security concerns.Members + users with 50 posts might be a future requirement that I think would suffice.
*Update*As October 1st approaches, it has become very obvious that releasing these all at once would be too difficult. So we're going to go with a tiered approach, something like:October 1st - John Doe's Low Stakes PackOctober 3rd - Jack Smith's Hyper PackOctober 6th - Bill Jones Turbo PackAnd so on.It might be back to back days or 2 or 3 days between, depending on when the final production is complete.I would normally just destroy myself for 2 weeks or so to make sure a firm schedule is out, but I'm remodeling a house, so I can't really put in an 80 hour week, it has to be sort of a 30-40 hour week for the site and 30-40 hour week for the house. Normally that's plenty to make the site run as smooth as can be from a support/video/promotions stand point, but this is obviously a big transition.Packs are coming along great though. There are over 6 in development right now and a few others in various planning stages. There should be a ton of new content on the site from October-December, and the results of those months will really determine the frequency of 2013 content. I can see the site really growing and justifying 1-2x the amount of content we used to release, and of course more consistently higher quality content on top of that and a tenfold increase in free content. Really looking forward to this guys, thanks for all the support so far.
who these guys are?
can we have infos about them, screenames, stakes level, ecc.
thanks
John Doe, Jack Smith, etc. pp are place holder names that one uses in the english languages if the name is not known - or should not made known to public - yet.As I understand the current situation the 'coaches' are selling the packs they made trough HUSNG.com and their turnover is in direct line with the sells of the packs. Therefore I am pretty sure that we will see plenty of graphs of those content producers, since it should drastically increase the sell.
Hi.
Ah, sorry, yea those were just placeholder names.I just mean that we're releasing the new packs individually, not all at once.So we'll get one on the first, the third, the fifth, etc.It will start with the first, but it might be anywhere from back to back days or two or three days between new releases for initial packs.
Interesting to hear about that chadders pack if i bought the originally one will there be a discount for the new one or something similar?Isnt the new packsystem a disadvantage? I mean u get 150 for all videos on the site for 3 month just like before but u have to pay for "packs" that consist of some videos of a coach that u get anyway for 150$ and all the other videos as well for 3 month?
- Anyone that bought Chadders pack before will get the updated videos (you might have to email, we might have some other way to get them to you). No extra charge.- It's an advantage because it allows us to get a lot more focused content out of authors, and it also will allow us to grab some authors we previously could not grab because we could not revenue share on a video pack.- Members have been telling us that they want more of certain players and the membership revenue just can't justify it in certain cases, or it's difficult to get production from some guys for 3-6 month periods. This lets us give you focused packs from producers, getting the best out of coaches when they have the time, rather than trying to make them consistent when professional poker players have to deal with the challenges of staying consistent at the tables to begin with.- At the end of the day, if we offered the exact same thing we did now, it would either cost the same (meaning we were previously priced right), cost more (meaning we were previously underpriced) or cost less (meaning we were previously priced too high). People buying the video packs will drive decisions in 2013. If a heads up cash pack sells extremely well, we'll make another one and look to fill any voids from the first successful one, building upon that success. If a turbo pack does poorly, we can assess why and either try another one a bit more cautiously or we can scrap it in favor of a more popular hyper focused pack.- But we're going to be offering more (at least initially) and we'll see how "producing more, better, focused content with coaches better aligned to success" does for the revenue numbers and feedback from users. We'll base future decisions on that, but this decisions is based on feedback from users. We're getting a lot of "we want this coach" or "we want this game type" or "I really want to work on math" or "I really want to work on postflop play, 10-15bb play, etc." And video packs are really going to allow us to do that better than before.- We're also going to be able to expand. I couldn't justify spending membership money on heads up cash videos normally, well under half the members of this site have any interest in it. However, clearly a small % of members have a ton of interest in heads up cash, and a small % want to learn. Having this format allows us to have Barewire make a heads up cash package.Let me know if you have any questions. This is a bit longer than I anticipated, but it should be a lot of info to look through.
So if i pay 150$ i will get access to all videos on the site and all the new "packs" for 3 month? What will be released in October then is there any schedule yet? I ve been a premium member for quite while now I am not anymore and I would like to renew the membership if i see the new schedule and what is comping up exactly. The new videos in September has been quite better as the last weeks in August etc. Can you also give some examples how much a certain upcoming pack will cost? If i get all videos for 150though they would have to be quite cheap for me to make it more intersesting than watching all videos 3 month long including all packs for 150$.ty.
Hi,No, the premium membership has no more new videos beginning October 1st.Video packs will be sold separately. You'll likely get more of what you want for $540 per year (the previous yearly premium rate) in the current system than with the premium membership. You won't likely want to subscribe to the premium membership more than once after October 1st, since no new videos are included. The price reflects the value of the membership to those that haven't seen the videos/seen any new premium videos in awhile, and the 3 months is to give them plenty of time to download what they want. But it will be similar to Chadders pack, once you buy the premium once after October 1st, you're not going to get anything new, so it will be a one time purchase. The old 3 month price was $165, but of course that included new videos.
This actually sounds like it's going to be really good Ryan, I hope you pull it off. Good luck :) Also I like the new math questions - I haven't seen any new spam posts lately :)
Thanks. I didn't realize we had new math questions. The webmaster updated some spam stuff.Though I've deleted a few spats of spam in the last week, it hasn't been as bad as it previously was for awhile.
If I understand right for the standard membership, we pay $50 for 3 month's acess to available videos and new videos made on that date range (Ocotober - December), right?Does the standard membership includes hyper tubo's videos for the low stakes HU (particular in Pokerstars)?Thank you.
Hi Luis,The standard membership is $25 right now for 1 month. On october 1st, no new videos will be added to the standard membership and users can buy access to the 400+ videos already in there for $50 (and they have 3 months to download any videos they wish). There are literally definitely some lower stakes videos on PokerStars of hyper turbos. Take a look at Coffeeyay, Cog Dissonance and some of my older videos, but don't leave out the higher level stuff. We'll also get a focused pack on lower stakes hypers in the next month or two. We haven't had as many micro buyin hyper videos lately, it's just been too tough on our hyper guys who are very pressed to time. So the new format can resolve that by releasing a lower stakes hyper pack totally focused on lower stakes players, and if it is very popular we can probably make a second one for players within a month or two after. An example like the above will make things a lot more organized and easy for people to find and buy what they want. Expect lower stakes hyper packs to range from $15-50.
It might make things more clear if I explain it this way: We're not trying to sell standard and premium memberships to previous buyers after October 1st. They will effectively turn into video packs themselves, and anybody that has subscribed recently will have already had most of that content.
Update on Video Packs:We had a few of our premium coaches that made some extra membership content for the last few days of the membership format so we have some extra videos. We doubled up the last two days to give you Barewire + a free video, but we have 2 or 3 more videos to release this week, so here is an updated schedule (will have specifics tomorrow on the main page):Monday and Tuesday we will release new premium videos and Wednesday will probably be another premium video. Then Thursday we will start to roll out the video packs.
Just curious - i renewed my membership very recently to watch a new math video by Coffeeyay. Now he is missing one video in this series which i´m very interested in, and i assume that will be released in a math pack, which i now probably have to purchase to get access to this video? I´m not really looking forward to that tbh..
Send me an email Friday or later (rypac13@husng.com) and we'll work something out.
There will be more than 1 math video ;) likely another 6
Any idea in which time frame you are planning to release them?
When will us be able to pay for the $150 viedo pack for old videos? The membership page still display $120 for 1 month premuim membership.
Thursday or Friday. The $120 is a better deal though, $120 for 800+ videos for one month vs $150 for 800+ videos for 3 months (no new videos after Thursday), the $120 is better (we didn't want to raise the price in the last few months before changes). The reason we have a few extra days of videos here is because I was really pushing for more videos since we had that 2-3 weeks of less videos on the site in late August/early September, but now people are making videos a lot more frequently.
So the difference is only that we can get 2 more months to download all the video? As long as we can download all of them in 1 month that will be fine to purchase the $120 monthly membership?
Correct. The price change (increase, really) are more relevant to the new customers that have never seen HUSNG.com before. The price right now is a little lower to allow previous subscribers to see the last few weeks/months/year of content for a more affordable price.Let me know if you guys have any other questions. Likely looking at Friday for HU Cash Pack, possibly as early as Sunday for Math Pack, and Tuesday or Wednesday for a hyper pack The schedule after that isn't quite set yet, people are still finishing their packs up. Chadders updated pack will come sometime this month, we're hoping closer to 2 weeks, but possibly 3 right now. There are a few other packs I have yet to announce that will roll out this month.
Will there be an "and this is how you exploit the HU SNG bots on ibots"-package? :]
Hi.
I'll release a free article about it right now:Move sites.Five stars?
I am glad that it is for free - cause I might have paid many C$ for it.It's not written in bold, so I only give it 4.5 / 5 stars.
Hi.
I assume you still working hard on the transition. So i clicked on the Free Button, and saw Coffee Hud - sweet (i thought). Yet i assume its will stay the same price and isnt really free after all. You probably wanted to post the Lite version there?
Ok, so we had to make a HUD page, but it has free and paid HUDs, so it was difficult to decide what to do and the Free part seemed to be the best spot for now.We have a new skin for the site, it's ready to go even (minus a few graphics) but we're going to hold off on it until we have the first 5 video packs up and running smoothly, just to avoid potentially large issues (and to keep our sanity).Barewire's pack is completed, checked up, and we're just working on some descriptor pages before it goes up, definitely tonight (barring massive errors).
do i get it right? at the moment thers 800 viedeos witch you can find by producer. this will stay like that. but the new videos witch are going to release ar video packs only. or do you put the current viedeos in packs as well? because this will mess up a lot.
New videos go into packs and not the premium membership. We only have plans to take some of Coffeeyay's math in HUSNG series and put it in his math pack, but he'll have 3+ hours of new material in there. Otherwise, every single future pack has zero plans to use any premium or standard membership content.I didn't want to wait for the transition period to have the members see Coffeeyay's math videos and since he had so many more math videos in him, it just made the most sense to do it this way.
Hey guys, when is the ETA for the Hyper pack? How is it different to chadders' pack? Also, who are the coaches working on it?
oops double post
Where can I find the free daily content?
I have now received the 4 hour bernardc hyper turbo class pack. I will be editing it over the next few days (it will likely end up between 3.5 and 4 hours) and we should have release set for Sunday-Tuesday area.SGT RJ's Conquering Tilt video pack is almost done.Chadders is probably 10-12 days away from his additions to his package, but that's not a guarantee.Coffeeyay is close to completion on his Math in HUSNGs pack.Cog Dissonance is working on his Playing Tight Players Class Pack.Several other players have begun work on other video packs, but the above will debut this month, and likely before any others are finished. We'll be getting daily free content up here starting next week. The free content comes from the players making the video packs, so it makes more sense for me to get them completing their packs before they make free content.
Hi Ryan, what do you mean by "class" pack, as mentioned for bernardc and cog?thanks
Oh, nice catch, it actually means two things:Cog - He teaches classes to each student, 4 different ones on how to play the 4 general types of opponents or characteristics (loose, passive, aggressive and tight) and he's going to turn his tight class into a video package. It will be aimed at beginner to intermediates.Bernardc - He'll be actually using classroom footage from two, two hour group coaching sessions that he recently did. They went over very well with participants and he's planning another class in early November (date tbd).
Hi Ryan,How often do you plan to release new video packs ? If these contain several new videos, would it be possible to "subscribe" to the pack shortly after the first video is released ?In theory, I like the idea of having more structured bundles instead of the current soap opera like format - as long as I don't have to wait several months for new content and then get so much that it would take me another month to watch it.However, there's also one thing which worries me a bit about the new format:In the past, I've often enjoyed watching a variety of videos which don't relate in any way of the format of poker that I play - just for the fun of it and I mostly watched these sitting relaxed on my couch and having a few beers. I'm afraid this won't happen anymore if everything needs to be purchased separately. For instance, my favorite video of all times falls into this category - it is about HU Cash and I may not have purchased it if it was part of some video pack - and yet I will remember this video for the rest of my life. For me, it's just just about that video, but also about the circumstances where I watched it, a great day where everything in my life was perfect. And of course, it was also a very special video, Skates' final one. Please don't put any jewels like that - which are more fun than educational anyways - into any video packs where they're easy to miss.Another example of something that I would not have purchased as a video pack, but enjoyed watched a lot was JackTheShipper's Tournament Series. I must admit, I mostly watched it like a movie, sitting on my couch drinking beer, but enjoyed it :-)Would you also consider something like a "flat rate" to get all the video packs in the next 12 months, something similar to the previous yearly premium membership ? Or at least give us some numbers about which video packs will be available throughout the next 12 months and what the total would be for purchasing them all.Depending on how much new video packs you're releasing, it may not be possible to purchase them all - or randomly purchase packs to watch them like movies while drinking beer - so having some estimate would really help.It would just suck to quickly burn most of a year's budget on suff like "well, I don't play 6-max, but this may be cool to watch anyways" until late March, then realize in August that there's a ton of really important stuff out there.Jack
We're only planning on the next 3 months or so. We should have 5 or more released by November 1st. I know it's been a little slow launching, but we're getting there and my optimism on scheduling and timing ended up being a little bit off. Then again, I can't see myself changing much if I could go back a month, if I said packs would start releasing on October 15th, many people would end up finishing them in November, that's kind of how it goes with the video industry, but after launch it shouldn't be an issue.Back to your questions, we plan on anywhere from 1 pack a month to 3 packs in a month. We're not going to go with a set plan on how many packs we release, if people want more hyper content, we'll get a hyper pack going and as soon as we can get a high quality one launched we will. If people want another hu cash pack, or a hu PLO pack, same. We're not going to be releasing stuff and then trying to sell it into 2013, but more of responding to what users tell us (with their money and their posts) they want. It's tough to answer the comment about Skates hu cash video. That was such a rare and unique video, I'm not sure a situation like that will ever come up again. Though if Skates for some reason made a "for real, final video" tomorrow and sold it to us, we would likely release it in short segments for free. If it were an hour or longer, perhaps we'd attach a small price tag to it and sell it separately.I liked JTS tournament series and it had fair to good reviews throughout. I would say if that never came out but I had the content today, it would release for a lower price point, so it would be a decision for you to make on spending $25 to $50 on it, or passing. There will be plenty of free clips of all the video packs too, so you'll have an idea of the content before purchasing, so if we could rewind and the site were in video pack format for the JTS series, you could've seen 5-15 minutes of free clips from it and then decided if you wanted to spend $25-50 on it, and judging by your comments of the series, you would probably be more likely than not to end up buying it.I think this is the last question you had, but bump this if I missed one: As far as buying everything for one price goes, I really want to do this and planned to do it, but I haven't made a final decision. Once we have 5 or 6 packs up, I'll see if it is feasible to do a "buy every pack for x price, which is a _ _ % discount off the full price." I don't think we can make it a membership thing, only "buy every pack you see today" and then adjust the price as we add new packs or discount old packs (you'll see more price changes in this format over time, both up and down to be honest, though it'll be more common to see prices go down over time of course).
That still leaves a rather huge margin on the total yearly costs. For instance, if you release 3 packs per month for $50 each, that's $1800/year - a lot more than a previous yearly premium membership.Regarding the JTS Serious, yes I probably would have purchased it if I somehow watched the first video of it - but there's almost zero chance that I would have bothered watching a free preview of something that requires an extra charge and is not in any way related to the format of poker that I'm playing. Or take Barewire's new pack, for instance, I don't play HU Cash and deepstack situations won't occur that often in Hypers, so my learning effect probably would be very small. I might want to watch it just for its entertainment value, but then I need to have some kind of an estimate of the yearly expenses - just don't want to spend some $1k for mostly-entertainment video in 6 months. This was one of the great advantages of the previous model, you could simply pay a yearly fee and them watch everything - including stuff that's not related to your format of poker.
Yes, but as mentioned a few times in this thread, we can't get the quality we'll end up having in the next 12 months with the previous model. We'll get more focused, better content from an overall group of better players in this new format. For example, how many heads up cash videos did Barewire do from 2010 or so until last month? Not many. He just did around 4 hours or so now. So you can't compare the previous price of the membership versus Barewire's video pack because we didn't have the luxury/ability to get heads up cash content from him before. The same will be able to be said about a lot of the future content. Not all of course, but many different video packs will have footage we could not have purchased/accessed under the previous model.I understand about the JTS pack example, but wouldn't you rather pay for stuff that you 100% want rather than stuff you might watch for fun while drinking but would not pay for? I know you're saying "But I could pay $65 a month and watch stuff I kind of like and stuff I really like all at the same time" but in this format you can pay for an individual video pack of exactly what you want, higher quality on average. There will be enough free clips to keep you entertained while drinking too I think.
Hmm, that's actuall a good argument. So people will basically purchase less than they did before, but get exactly what they want, therefor get a much higher return on their investment. Makes sense, yeah.Btw. what happens with those of us who still have 6 months of their previous yearly membership remaining? Can we just download all video packs till it expires, get some refund or how does this work?
Will there be any presales-previews? I bought Chadders pack and do not regret it, but I woudl not invest this kind of money every two weeks just to notice that it about the same - just from another source - than in the pack i bought 4 weeks ago.
