Sentin7 debuts with a video complete with slides, game play and some crocodile talk. This is Sentin's first video, so be sure to take a minute and give us some valuable feedback.
This was the nuts.
I'm always blaming variance for me not crushing the hypers.
This vid has got me thinking that it's more like that I am missing value in a ton of spots.
More please.
Hi sentin, Nice vid ! The introduction is great. The sound is very good, but the picture-quality is a little-bit bad. (I can't see the numbers of the stack sizes). .... and no I am not blind or wear glasses....lol ;) I hope to see the next one soon ! Gl and thx.
Try full screen on full quality 480p, that should make it better.
The youtube loss in quality is definitely something I'm still learning how to minimize (regular video is fine).
This is a top quality training video, covering one specific aspect of the game in some detail and using practical examples to demonstare the basic theory. Sentin's delivery and explanation of his thought processes are very good.
Whilst I think that making this video available for free is completely understandable due it being Sentin's debut, I would argue that in terms of content and reinforcing winning concepts it deserves to be a premium video.
I appreciate that you took time to break down and put forth a planned lesson and then found textbook examples to illustrate that lesson's themes. Your style is smooth, calm, and consistent, which sort of produces a more intimate instruction than I get from some of the others' vids.
Do you plan to do any turbo HUSNG instructional videos? That would be UH-mazing! If not, I'll certainly keep up with your hyper posts.
Job well done. Thank you!
-James
Thanks for the awesome vid you made which did a great job of explaining how to beat fish--it tops most of the vids on HUSNG which are just random leakfinders and gameplay footage. I'm looking forward to more videos, hopefully as thoughtfully constructed as your first :)
Hi guys, thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the video. As far as making Turbos SNG videos, I haven't actually played any hu turbos but I did play hu cash for a little while and have been thinking of jumping into turbos during slow hyper times for a while now...so if there was a demand for it, I could definitely document the learning process in a video or two.
hey, nice video, just one question though. U talk about the importance of Non show down line, and most good regs have one too. How do u define good show down line?? For exemple, when u use pokertracker, u check the the non show down line from the graph. It has to be positive numbers or???
Yes, definitely a positive number. The exact range beyond that varies greatly, but I have seen enough mountainslope NSD lines to assume most people could achieve something relatively close to that should they make the right adjustments to their game (ie, the ones outlined in the video to start).
Hi Sentin,
First of all, thanks for the great video, really enjoyed it! I've noticed one hand where things don't really add up to each other. This is the hand where you have J2s, on the river you're saying that his range is capped to pair of 8s, but as you've mentioned before fish don't flat top pairs on the flop. And that was a dangerous board on the flop, so i don't really see him having an 8 there at all. And just a quick qestion: you said that on this boards fish generally raise big or just shove, but i imagined myself in this situation. I would shove if i had an 8 (especially weaker one), by this i can represent more. The villain can put me on many draws (and rightly so, cause i will play them similarly) and hero call with pretty much any pair. I don't see much value in raising smaller, or especially in faltting. If we're behind that's it we're toasted and nothing we can do about it. But if we're ahead now i just don't see how we can get more value just from raising and not shoving, cause obviously we're not folding to his shove and we don't want to see him flatting our raise. Can you comment this situation, what would you do having top pair, pair of 7s or draws (strong or weaker ones) on this board? Thanks!
Yes, I noticed that mistake (capped to an 8 instead of 7) when I watched it back too. Good catch!
And I was confused by your 2nd question. Are you saying you prefer a shove earlier in the hand somewhere?
I disagree with the PTs. I mean these aren't really fishy tendencies. Most players (OK regs, good regs, fishes, randoms) don't flat w/ Ax below 20bb (except for some rare occasions), don't flat w/ 9x on 973, for various reasons (like: fishes: affraid of overcard, regs: balancing, 'cos it's a good flop to CR w/ air). And imo regs rarely flat w/ TP, because they can get value from worse (like on QT3r w/ QJ, they can extract value from Qx, Tx, str8draws), and I don't think that anybody slowplay wet boards without a proper excuse to do so. Or maybe I just have fishy tendencies in those spots...:D
So I think mostly you describe overall PTs (or more likely reg PTs. Sometimes fish play passively w/ weak TPs, b/c they're affraid of better TPs), except for the last three (those are really fishy lines/thinking mode).
I think a nice PT of fishes: they don't have a linear part of their 3bet range (I mean most regs 3bet KTs+, QJs, and strong hands, and light 3bet hands, but most fish only have strong hands, and trash in their range).
Otherwise I liked your video, especially the HHs (covered some great spots).
On the Jc2c hand where the board runs out 8c7c2dAsQd if the river woulda been a total blank (like 4h, 3d, or some other low card) would you shove, or rather check-back w/ your SD value?
On the Tc5s2s flop w/ Td6d would you ever consider leading with less than pot? Like 25-30? It maybe induce more, generates more call, and we can set up a cheeper stabbing dynamic, so if he's a limping player (and when he limp the 1st BTN I think it's a fair assumption that he likes to limp a lot) we can lead on good flops w/ air a lot, and we don't need to risk that much
Yes, I think it's definitely true that the 2nd and 3rd PT are not exclusive to fish - though a bit more common to them and still extremely important to our understanding of how to play vs fish obviously.
I think we can still barrel a low brick on the river in the J2s hand because he either binked some random draw/2-pair hand and is river trapping (unlikely imo since I think fish like to donk these spots, especially when there's an ace on board which they assume you always have), has air (our shove is therefore for lolvalue), or is now holding a weak one pair hand with a 7 or lower (since we don't think he has the 8 due to our PT of flop play). Based on those assumptions and since I personally believe option A is the least likely of the 3, I see this as a pretty good spot to risk turning our hand into a bluff and force him to herocall (which he will admitedly do more on brick rivers, but most likely not enough...and if he does, we just hope for a rematches and start adjusting our value-betting and bluffing frequencies on similar boards).
In the T6s hand, although leading small in spots like this will often be a good option, I don't really think this would be the best time for it. Although I think I mention in the video that we may induce a spazz with our bet, I think based on
the little information we have on villian (limp 1st button) we can't really expect him to do anything overly aggressive here. So if we expect him to play his hand relatively passively, I think a larger bet will help us extract max value. Also, as a bonus, if he does happen to decide to take an aggressive line with his draws/weaker pairs or spazzes, he will now be forced to commit more chips to do so.
And as for setting up a 'stabbing dynamic' (that sounds painful...), refer back to the last PT in our list.
Thanks for the answer!
Yep, after a second thought I totally agree with the potbet in the T6 hand. Villain will spazz whatever the betsize if he wants, and we will have better SPR to get it in at the river. I think I balance, and set up unnecessary dynamics waaaay too much against fishes. I will tend to focus more on exploiting in those situations:)
Hope to see another video soon
Sentin, this video is awesome, quite possibley the best, most informative video I've watched since I've been a member, please stick it in the standard or premium section its just to good to be on here for free!
really looking forward to your next video.

This video was excellent, you explained yourself clearly and then explained yourself again with hand histories. Ryan I hope you're paying him well :)
I think it's really helped me find some spots where I take a very similar line but get scared on a lot of rivers and check back my value hands as I, for example, forget to take hands such as TP out of villain's range because they flatted my cbet.
I'm looking forward to your next video.
This blew my mind. These are the situations in my game where I was struggling to find a good default strategy at the micros. I never thought it could be so simple until I watched your video. Top notch!
Thanks again guys, appreciate all the positive feedback.
And that's great work wrig, your NSD line looks pretty sexy! Now we just have to keep an eye on your progress and see if I broke your SD line or you've just run into some variance (or possibly barreling in some spots that we might actually not want to barrel for various reasons).
relatively new to HUsng, i am not much of a HU player but am working on all aspects of my game. i saw the free videos offered so i thought i would give a few a shot, this was the first one i watched and I thought it was great. Thorough analysis, loved the PT at the beginning, overall a great video. Pry the first HU video i ever watched and glad i did. Thanks
Since I've gotten a couple messages asking about it, just want to let you guys that the video pack is still probably at least 2-4 weeks away.
However, in the meantime I'm also trying to put together a small video introduction to Full Tilt's Irish poker HU cashgames. If all goes well, that should be ready within a couple of days and will be free to view.
Cheers,

Hey,
Just wanted to say what a good video that was. I liked your theory first, then examples approach.. would have been nice to see a couple where it didnt go so well though, just for illustration!
I will be taking this straight into my game as it think its a really key area that im missing out on.. on a number of the hands i would have checked behind when you river shoved and missed a ton of value.
Thanks! More videos!!

If you want to see ones that don't go well, just imagine having my 3 barrel bluff getting called down by bottom pair lol :)
And I'm glad to hear the video helped you with your game!

You say that underbetting here on flop is good to induce a fish to Ch/R you with a worse draw or small pair but what if he has actually hit and Ch/R with a king? am i missing something here - probably ... ?
The way I look at it, villain is almost definitely going to be c/r his Kx hands here whether we bet 30 or 40, so we shouldn't be so concerned with that (small) part of his range and instead use our betsizing to influence/manipulate the (much larger) remaining part of his range. Make sense?
