Last week, we talked to two PokerStars.fr regs about what they think of Spin And Go's, PokerStars's 3-max hyper turbo randomized prizes format. Today, we also have the thoughts of seven regs whom we have interviewed or profiled in the past: Spencer "360flip019 / 360flip19" Moe, Conor "Earl Hindman / Jaws Washington" Shelly, Johannes "Jossel2008 / JosselTheKiller" Meyer, Alex "A13x_J0nes" Jones, Steven "randon_chu" Chew, Karliz / coixdawg and Derek "dl184" Leach.
Spencer "360flip19" Moe
I'm not looking forward to the introduction of Spin and Go's. Besides my own interests being that they will impact the traffic for hyper turbos, I feel the rake will be too high for many players to be successful. I have sampled the games on FullTilt and I see the addictive element to these games. The spin is a fun sweat, but from an expectation perspective I think it will be a big negative. Very low edges cause losing players to lose their money at a faster rate with more of their share contributing to rake rather than to other players. This is a bad bottom line for everyone.
Conor "Earl Hindman/Jaws Washington" Shelly
Selfishly, I don't like it because I have a good thing going now. I don't like adding any more luck into my grind than is necessary, but as with anything if they become the dominant gametype it's just up to the player to adapt and have a winning skillset in any climate online. That said they won't take over for a while I'd imagine.
Johannes "Jossel2008/JosselTheKiller" Meyer
It won't be that interesting. Like bankroll wise you'll need a lot more money to play a $50 spin and go than you need to play a $50 hu sng. They probably will have similar expectations. Therefore, it will always be better for hu regs to remain playing hu. You'll still see a good bit of action on them I suspect - all the 6max 9max sng grinders could be interested. But you know, I could be wrong about some of this, I don't know about rake, etc.
Alex "A13x_J0nes" Jones
It’s very clearly bad for poker. If they are worth playing, 9m regs aren't going to be the regs. It's going to be 6m/ HUSNG players who already crush that play them at a lower winrate. But at the same time, I’ve played 3-5 of them on FTP and they are quite fun. I would prefer they don't come to Stars / poker sites, but it's Stars's business and I'm not entitled to tell a poker site exactly how I want it. I'm sure a lot of recreationals will really like those tournaments. :)
Steven "random_chu" Chew
It’s a tough topic. I’ve done a bit of research but not enough. There's a good post on it by masuronike that breaks down a lot of the numbers. I agree with what he says. But then again in terms of variance people are complaining a lot and are worried, but I doubt they're as bad as mtt variance, though I have no facts to back that up.
Derek "dl184" Leach
Oh yeah, I've played them on Winamax. They killed the action. Stars is pretty clear on their future route like promoting the FTP casino on the Stars main homepage.
Karliz / coixdawg
It sounds pretty fun but I can't imagine them becoming very popular, especially with regs. A bunch of eurosites have these weird sng systems but I don't believe many people play them.
Thank you to these regs for sharing their thoughts. What about you, readers? Let us know how you feel with your comments.
Why is that idiot coixdog the only reg without a pic next to his comment?
Also 360flip is handsome as fuk damn hnnnng wood plow and I'm not even gay. Considering his top tier aesthetics why isn't he a $1k reg?
why don´t you have a pic next to your comment? according to your logic you must be an idiot as well.
Pictures are worth a thousand words. No picture, though? It's worth "idiot" ;)
It was Saturday night, guessing he was drunk.

Stars is billing these games as a "tournament" where you could win 30k in minutes.
If they changed the lobby so that Spin & go were seated next to the games they truly emulate, 6max hyper and hu hyper, then fish could quickly jump into the other formats.
As it is anyone who hits a jackpot will probably dump more money into a real MTT, a sunday million, super tuesday pipe dream they can finally afford.
I haven't tried stars 7 or the mobile apps. I just think that the landing page of each should recommend a quick seat to a 6max hypers, HU hypers AND spin & go if that matches a players playing preferences.
ex. It took stars too long to finally place 180 man SNGS in the MTT lobby, fish couldn't find them and they never fired.
That's the kind of mistake they would be making if they introduced a new shorthanded format and didn't try to handcuff it to the games that have been driving the action.
Bauce.
Noticed that 30$ HU hypers are filling up much slower in last couple of days. It looks like these Spin N Goes are stealing lot of fish.
It was bad enough already...
Had sharky registering for 2 tables but didn't play 2 tables at all and couldn't get more than 10-12 games per hour...
On the other side, I tried few Spin and goes Last night and they are very soft. Lots of 2007 type fish are playing them...
It would be good if someone who knows the math well to calculate if these games are beatable or not with the current rake structure and what kind of ROI could be expected for a winning HU hyper player...
"If you want to win, you must not lose!"
The games are almost certainly beatable. It's a matter of how high the winrates/hourly potential is versus hyper HUSNGs.
I don't have enough information to really make a good estimate on that yet though.
I'm curious about future results. :)
Graphs of winning players will look much different than HU hypers graph though. Instead of steady upright graphs that most winning regs now have, in spin N goes graphs will be more like MTT players graphs. Long breakeven and losing stretches with occasional big upright jump...
It's going to be more like MTT grinding, but instead of getting 1st place in a tourney because of skill, in these Spin N goes big win depends on a Spin...
And losing and breakeven stretches could go for a very, very long time... until you hit that 1000 X multiplier
"If you want to win, you must not lose!"
Granted, getting first place in a single MTT isn't about that much skill. If you play your best in every MTT, you'll only get first place once in a long while on average.
In Spin and Gos, the end result wouldn't be so much different (you'd get a huge price shot once in awhile).
The issue really is if the rake versus edge is enough to make these as profitable as MTTs (or hyper HUSNGs).
Practically achievable volume relative to the variance of the distribution of returns should also be considered.
