Hi HUSNGs,
I am playing poker since 2010. Not very successfull. Now I find this page and I want to start with HUSNG Hypers.
I looked for a way how to start, and I want to summaries this way, because here are a lot of informations and its very hard for a beginner tp pick out the right infos:
So maybe this could be a start:
1. Read the ebook twice
2. watch all free vids for HUSNG Hypers
3. Go on the tables
4. Starts with 1,50€ HUSNGs and look how it works.
5. Move up with 50BI, move down with 30BI
6. Watch the following premium vids:
a.) Chadders0 hyper turbo video pack
b.) zZz Tilt & phl500 hyper turbo pack
c.) zZz Tilt hyper turbo beating regs pack
7. read the following books:
a.) The Mental Game of Poker
b.) Heads Up No Limit Holdem I & II ( Will Tipton)
8. posting hands in the forum
I hope that will be a solid base to crush the micros and have a good start for playing HUSNGs.
Best regards
Defchef
1. Read the ebook twice - a bit excessive; once should do fine. Take notes on what you feel is important. You must understand that the game has changed dramatically since the release of the ebook and whilst it is still an incredibly useful resource, you shouldn't try to follow the strategy exactly.
2. watch all free vids for HUSNG Hypers - agreed.
3. Go on the tables - the most important one yet; do this at least 75% of the time at first so you understand the games.
4. Starts with 1,50€ HUSNGs and look how it works - agreed.
5. Move up with 50BI, move down with 30BI - agreed; can take a slightly bigger risk at that level but it's smart to watch your BR.
6. Watch the following premium vids:
a.) Chadders0 hyper turbo video pack - THIS is what you should watch twice.
b.) zZz Tilt & phl500 hyper turbo pack - this is slightly advanced for the $1.50s; I would wait a while and maybe watch when you reach the $7s or $15s.
c.) zZz Tilt hyper turbo beating regs pack - absolutely no need to watch this until you are at least at the $15s; this pack is outstanding but will blow your mind whilst you're playing the $1.50s and you are going to encounter zero regs there. Don't watch this just yet, it will just confuse you.
7. read the following books:
a.) The Mental Game of Poker - probably the most influential resource in my poker career. Use it interactively and take notes.
b.) Heads Up No Limit Holdem I & II ( Will Tipton) - see my point re: zZz reg pack. Way too soon and far, far too complicated to be useful at this stage of your career.
8. posting hands in the forum - Agree 1,000 times over.
Try not to flood your brain with too much information; too much water spoils the plant. If you watch everything and read everything at once, nothing will go in and it will be a waste of time - take it from a guy who did exactly the same thing and wasted countless hours. Watch Chadders' vid pack and play 1,000 games or so at the $1.50s, then starting mixing everything else in bit by bit and you will begin to learn. You'd actually benefit from reading the Mental Game of Poker 2 first; it details how we learn and the art of doing so efficiently.
Also; as pointed out by some other forum regulars, there is no reason to post graph after graph. Share graphs after each 500-1,000 games or so, not after 50/60 as the sample size will be pointless and will put people off your thread. You are far better off posting hands as you suggested.
Do not expect results right away; getting good takes time, lots of it, especially in today's market. Concentrate on getting a feel for the game and then start working on the advanced stuff.
Good luck.
Wubblepig's advice here is excellent.
Hey Wubblepig,
thanks a lot for your comments. I am very happy to opened this thread, because without it, I think I ve put my focus on unnecessary thinks.
One think,
you write in Point 1 that the game has dramatically changed. In which way??
Thanks for the feedback fellas; always glad to help a player who is just starting out - I made a lot of mistakes when I started playing HUSNGs and with no poker friends was left to my own devices. Hopefully, Defchef, you will now progress more quickly than I was able to.
Regarding the changing game; despite each player starting with just 25 big blinds, there is an incredible amount of strategy to hypers. The strategy in Mersenneary's ebook was geared towards the most popular and indeed optimal style at that time - hyper aggressive with an extremely wide min-raising range. A lot of players now find a slightly less aggressive style with a wider limping range to be more successful. The game changes all the time and you will need to adapt and make changes yourself or you will get left behind. As I mentioned; the ebook is a truly excellent resource and is most of the strategy is still relevant... Just be aware that not all of it is still correct.
Hi Wubblepig,
thanks a Lot for your answers! I am very happy about your Support!
Are there some charts for a husng ht beginner or will i get them. by reading the ebook or watching the Videos?
what about the Video Package of sentin7: crushing fish like a Boss? Its just 70$
what do you think is the best Poker Plattform to start? PS, FTP or maybe Black Chip? I saw that there is a rakeback deal about 27% at BlackChipChip! I am from Germany
what do you think how much Time i have to invest to be a winning player who plays Poker for a Part Time Job? I Know its up to me, but i wanted to know for what i need to prepare myself. I ve got a 9-5 Job (area Sales Manager)
best regards
Regarding Charts its some suggestions in in the Ebook thats decent, chadders has a good basic plan in his pack.
My best answer to this is to get 2-3 different ranges +nash and sit down and play around with it in stove / EQlab / flopzilla / coffeemath.
compare different hands/ranges against ranges, EV for different actions with hands at different depths etc, its tricky at first but very good to learn!
Imo sentins pack is not half as good as chadders!
As you can play on stars just do it, you get action at any time of the day and rakeback isnt super important as a micro-grinder (if you're not pushing insane volume?)
"Time is money" is more applicable here than anywhere else!
more time - quicker learning - more money - different learning - more money - etc
But still most important of all: PLAY POKER!!!!
Regards
/Another one of all the theory-grinders that dont put in the volume :-P
Hi Davelin,
thanks a lot.
Does all the programs stove / EQlab / flopzilla / coffeemath runs on a mac?

Hi,
me again :)
PS has a new rake structure, so it its still possible for a beginner to beat HUSNGs HT??
Regards
It was always difficult for a "beginner to beat HUSNG HTs".
Extending the benchmark win rates I calculated here:
http://www.husng.com/content/beating-68-rake-hu-hypers-party-pre-rb-even...
Typical lower win rate = 52.0%
Typical upper win rate = 52.6%
Applied to new r = 2.5% rake structure
Typical lower win rate
@ r = 2.5% & w = 52.0%
ROI = 0.52 * (1 - 2 * 0.025) - (1 - 0.52) = 0.014 = 1.4%
Typical upper win rate
@ r = 2.5% & w = 52.0%
ROI = 0.526 * (1 - 2 * 0.025) - (1 - 0.526) = - 0.05 = 0.0257 = 2.57%
So a positive ROI will still be achievable but it will be significantly lower than under old regime ceretis paribus.
This means the swings will be bigger too (and they are already pretty gross).
Although a ton of regs should leave after these changes so it might rebalance out ...
Hi cdon,
thanks a lot for your answer.
So the regs will leave and the fishes will still be there, that means I will play more against fishes. Thats nice.
Do you thing its better do play at PS or to play at another platform. When another platform, which one do you prefer?
When its difficult for a beginner die beat HUSNGs HT,should I start with the regular or tubo HUSNGs?
Best regards
Well with post rake edges eroded, the games naturally can't sustain as many regs. They may leave completely or move down.
I should probably clarify what I meant by
Figures I've seen suggest approx 90% of poker players are lifetime losers => so unless you rise to the top circa 10% of players in the pool you compete with, you will not be able to beat the games. As a beginner you will almost certainly not be in the top 10% of players. With rake increased, this figure will likely contract further as pre-rake edge is siphoned to the poker room.
Personally, I'm still deciding what I'm going to do re online poker. I've had a pretty terrible run over the limited volume I've put in this year and have barely played at all in the last 6 months. My motivation to play was waning anyway but I think after this recent announcement I'm going to withdraw my entire bankroll and spend more time on some other projects / hobbies.
Cheers,
cdon
Great read WubblePig
What would you guys say are the must have software tools?
I already have PT4, HEM2 and TN2 and Sharkscope. I'm thinking of adding sharkystrator, icmizer and the coffee hud as I get tooled up to take on this game!
Anything else a must have?
For that matter any software nice to have rther than a must have?
Thanks,
laowai.
I think for HU tables you don't need TN2, except you really mass table HU.
However HU tables are not very well suited for mass tabling.
