This question is aimed with our target villain being a 7's general pop tends player.
I dont want us to go too crazy with all the math involved or how we utilize our hud/reads to determine our specific opponents tendencies and whether we can use this to exploit them in certain spots on specific boards and so on...
I'm talking more about the first few hands of play, against a new opponent.
so...
25bb deep.
We call a min raise pre.
We check raise the flop 40 to 80 with a draw/bluff hand and get called. For this example let say we are holding 7h9h on a 6h 8c 2s flop
turn comes a higher blank ... Say Jd
We lead turn 90 and get flatted.
river comes a 3c
Can we Jam here? Or give up? should we of not led out on turn? should we of jammed turn?? should we of check raised turn? any other point to consider?
Just because I get to the river in this spot a lot and I'm not sure I am approaching it correctly...
thanks
If you are going to have a check raise and barrel off range this is a good hand to do it with, personally id prefer c/c and leading some turns. Most people on the flop will get it in with 8x as its a vulnerable top pair on a flop with straight draws. If you think his perceived range is 6x then the turn is a good card to barrel providing you shove river as most players call turn in that spot and fold to a river shove.
Try to choose your sizings so that you are shoving river close to pot as it gives people worse odds to call with bluffcatchers, if you are shoving half pot or less on the river you are going to get called a higher percentage due to the odds villian is getting.
jamming a river here is fine
but with less reads on the player i might just check and try to see what he is calling or check raise with but then again in a hyper its more important to take the hand down
i think a turn jam here is prolly better than waiting for the river
i would also check raise slightly bigger than just clicking it back i would check raise to 100 (shop theory says 100 will get alot less calls than 80 and i am happy for peps to fold v my draws)
Hi there
I'd agree with 4 card brett, but i'd go further. I think clicking it back is quite horrible. I'd be calling 40 if I had any outs whatsoever, even a single overcard. You're just begging for opponent to hit 2-pair and then paying him off for stacks. Personally, I'd be c/r to 120-140 chips here. More often however, I'd smooth call. If opponent gives up on the turn, we can bluff almost any river, picking up the pot for a small fraction of the risk.
Hope this helps.
