Interview with Andy "mightmad" Lee
Charles Hawk: First of all tell me please your motivation and everything emotion-related about starting your 2016 performance (knowing the fact about rake decrease). Was your start of the year any different than you can recollect from the past?
Andy "mightmad" Lee: Start of the year plan was a bit different to what I planned due to the removal of SNE but I'm still motivated to grind online poker cus tbh there's still not many jobs that can be compared to poker in terms of hourly unless you really put yourself out there and find the best job that would satisfy your life. But then again it's going to most likely be working for someone and it's not a thing I'm prepared to do. Probably my main motivation to grind right now is to use poker as a stepping stone for greater investments in the future. I still have a passion for poker so it helps to keep me up there grinding.
Charles Hawk: Tell me – in comparison with a year ago - about your volume/hr, fish ratio, time which you need to wait for action, (maybe hourly winnings) and every other important stat?
Andy "mightmad" Lee: I think my volume last year has decreased a fair bit due to the interest of travelling (mainly Asia) found myself more free in life in a way and met interesting people. This year with the help of Jared T, I've refocused on my goals and set myself some good volume goals. Last year I've mainly played Husng and the games per hour has slowly decreased, given the games per hour and the amount of tables I was firing in those formats there was a bit of a gap between games unlike spins where your fire up tables as much as you like with instant action. In terms of rec/regs games Husng stayed the same while spin n go are back to the same ratio as last year except the first month of 2016 where almost all the regs were on their 2015 break.
Charles Hawk: How are you feeling after 3 months of new changes behind you? (Maybe you can share your 2016 graph?) How positive are you about your long-term future in online poker (at least 3 years)?
Andy "mightmad" Lee: The changes are bad to all regs but I stay positive and continue to grind, I think because I was SN in 2015 it hasn't hit me as much as SNE perks got hit. I think 3 years and above online poker would not deteriorate as bad as people think but I'm sure in certain formats the game would almost certainly dry up that there won't be any games in them.
Charles Hawk: How are you feeling energy-wise and motivation-wise? Are you grinding at the same pace as usually all those years?
Andy "mightmad" Lee: I have put a lot more volume from mid February but recently came 4th in a live event for £55,000 while managing to satellite to that event, was planning to buyin but my friend told me about this value satellite. I'll be going to Vegas for wsop and it will be my first time so looking forward to it. I've set myself daily 5k vpp targets and I'll be hitting them after my short week break.
Could anyone enlighten me about the rake decrease? I have seen it mentioned in the beginning of all the last 3 interviews.
