This looks like one of the many impossible situations which frequently occur when playing ace-rag deep and out of position. Don't play ace-rag out of position would be my advice. Wait for the blinds to go up, and then shove over his raise preflop.
However, given that we have both called preflop and check-raised the flop, I think we have to call on this river. Mathematically speaking, our hand is simply too strong and there are too many chips invested to fold. We only have to be good < 1/3 of the time here to make this a profitable call. I would suggest that this is easily true against most opponents.
An alternative line would be to check/call on the flop, turn and river, i.e. play small ball poker. By keeping the pot smaller, we leave open the option to fold on the river.
I think playing A4o OOP @ 45BB is fine.
We can definitely do better than -1.0BB we yield from folding it.
We can even do better by 3b it given the right gameflow / image because it blocks a lot of a 4b range and people tend to nit up vs 3b.
I think I made the mistake of c/r flop,
I should just c/c.
As played c/c river is fine because he will have some missed draws he will turn into a bluff when checked to on the river.
Just check call flop, your hand is a strong bluff catcher and should be played that way imo, vs his hands like 10 5 off etc they have no overcards vs your hand, these type hands may barrel of vs you if they think you are just check calling 6x and 9x, when you raise you fold those hands out and define your hand to value/ draws and bluffs, you are already crushing his bluffs and you will be way behind his get it in value range unless he has a draw. We are now facing a bet on the river for all our chips because we check raised flop and bloated the pot.
Yep agreed.
At the time was trying to get draws to spew.
But they will often flat anyway IP so I think c/c is better to keep his cbet bluffs in his range and give him a chance to barrel with them.
