Hi,
Villain was a reg, with following stats (about 100hands) and notes:
ip open 93%
30% call 3bet
25% fold F cbet
35% 2bet flop
Notes: very aggressive, herocalls 1x
- Preflop 3bet for value, because of his 93% opening range, flop standart cbet, thinking I am good here most of the times,
the range I give him here, is weak, in my oppinion he would have checkraised the flop with all overpairs or a six, so I set him on a king or an ace.
Maybe 78, or 22,33.
- Turn I give him the opportunity to bluff me, I also want to keep the pot small, and does not want to get check raised, easy call for me.
- Based on the range I gave him, I made the river bet small, to get called with K or A high. He has shown before that he is capable to do this passably light.
When he shoves, I have to call, because I think that he also does this as a bluff often enough.
I am curious about the feedback, because villain flamed me, because of my lead on the river.
thank you

Hi there fabulous365
Preflop: I probably wouldn't have 3bet preflop with A8o. It doesn't flop very well, and would play better as a smooth call in my opinion. However, if I had been looking to 3bet preflop, as you might have been given his high opening percentage, and you had been very card dead, I might consider this move.
On the flop: based on your stats for the player, I would expect him to make a play a bit too often for a cbet to be profitable. You could consider a check call and revaluate on the turn.
On the turn: calling here seems a little thin. The opponent bets 1/2 pot, which I think he would do with 5x (even if he never has 6x, which I'm not sure about) or any pocket pair. 4x could also be possible, perhaps sometimes.
River: standard stuff.

i think you summed it up quite well. whereas i might add that even being carddead against that opponent i would never consider 3betting A8o. it´s a horrible hand to play OOP against an aggressive player who will float you on a huge number of boards, whereas it´s a great hand to play in a single raised pot against an aggressive player, especially when an A flops. if i am being carddead and want to 3bet PF, i´d rather do it as a real bluff, like 82s. it´s also easier to give up such a hand postflop, because you don´t have any SDV, while A8o can get you in a lot of trouble.
