Answers About Christmas Gifts and Poker In 2014

We asked a few regs about what they planned for Christmas gifts and how they felt 2014 was for them in poker. Here are their responses:

From poker perspective this year was very interesting. In the beginning of the year the 60 division was created. There was a lot of battling between regulars for membership and ability to open sit in the lobby. That was the time when I certainly improved my game to stay competitive.
Now as I mentioned before I play mainly Spin and Go tournaments. It's hard to make predictions, but it looks like this could be my main game and income stream for 2015. If my calculations are correct, I don't even need to hit the biggest multiplier to make money. Obviously hitting it would be great, but it is nice to know that it is not required for success.

I really enjoy shopping, when I am buying Christmas gifts. I visit shops in the morning - opening hours usually start at 9 or 10 AM. Most people work 9 to 5, so that's the time when stores are not overcrowded and I can do my shopping peacefully. When they work I do shopping, when they do shopping I work. That's one advantage of being a professional poker player - I try to manage my time in such a way that I am not waiting in queues and traffic jams.
What gifts I bought? For my son and his cousin I bought some toys - Lego,  toy formula cars and sport equipment. For adults I don't try to be fancy. I try to make sure that I am buying things that will not be thrown away as useless a few days after Christmas is over. In this category ("gifts that will certainly not be thrown away") is quality wine and some delicious chocolate stuff. I also like to buy those coupons and gift cards - they are nicely decorated and come in stylish envelopes. I bought some for example in a big bookstore - so the person can go there after Christmas, find the books they like and pay with these coupons.
But in my opinion the most valuable gift you can give to your family (not only during Christmas period) is your time. For example, my son likes to play with cars, but he doesn't want to play alone. So when he receives formula cars as Christmas gift, it's important that I reserve enough time so we can play together. There is much more value in that time that we spend together than in the gift itself. So I think it doesn't matter whether you buy a lot of presents or just a small gift - just make sure you spend a lot of quality time with your friends and family.

I feel pretty positive going in to 2015. I've learnt and grown so much this year as a poker player, which is really all you can hope for. I'm always conscious of not stagnating in terms of my game, even when my results might suggest otherwise. In terms of achieving goals, I didn't really have any hard set goals to tick off, but I feel overall the year was a success. I ran quite poorly deep in some big MTT's this year, which is very frustrating, but I feel I'm playing the best poker of my career so I'm confident that a big score is just on the horizon.

Christmas is just glorious in Australia. Hot weather, lots of sun, everyone has holidays and it's party central. It's kinda hard not to be in a good mood at this time of year.
As for gifts, I'm kinda lost. I find it a little hard to buy gifts, especially for women, so I palm off most of the gift buying duties to my girlfriend. When my mum opens her present and finds a really nice skincare set from some trendy boutique, I think she knows it's not from me... but I don't think she minds haha. Tiffany and co just opened a new store near my house, and my girlfriend points it out to me every time we drive past... I've got a feeling that I'm going to have to buy her something from there. That's pretty much the only gift that I'm sweating at the moment. The rest will work itself out.

This year has been really great for me overall. I'm satisfied and managed to travel quite a lot, although I'm not that happy about my volume and wish to start 2015 with a consistent grind. Regards to the present, haven't really thought much but definitely going to buy my girlfriend something special and send it to her in Japan. (Ended up buying her a Burburry leather gloves).

I am not really buying much really. We are not the type with many presents and all that. We just enjoy this period cause it brings us all together.

I'll be away from everyone this year and will be travelling with the girlfriend. She will be the only one getting a present, a diamond ring that comes with a question.

Have achieved most of what I wanted. Of course you can always be more productive but I am happy overall of what I did the entire year. For me I feel it is personal (about gifts), so I would rather not share it in public. My mood though is great, I hope for more snow in Latvia, but overall I am very happy!

Well I'm getting married and have a kid on the way so we decided to keep all our money and not get each other gifts this year.

I did not achieve all my poker goals nor failed them either, but mainly because I did not set up many poker goals. Just tried to play my best.

I am not much into religious stuff like Christmas but pretty sure I am going to spend it with my family, and have not decided yet but going to buy a trip maybe to my grandmother and sister as a gift worth mentioning.
