Charles Hawk: What’s your opinion on balancing poker with other live activities, and how do you do that?
I think balancing poker with other activities is essential to having a long career. Some people seem to feel time away from grinding is costing you money, but I personally feel like its needed in order to not get burned out and to live a healthy life style. It's still important to maintain a proper work schedule, but its also necessary to have other things on the go. I feel if someone has only one thing that makes up their entire life and that one thing starts to go poorly, it can be quite stressful. Go out with friends and do non poker related things. Then be ready to focus when it's time to play.
Charles Hawk: Do you get bored when grinding? Do you have any advice on how to keep focused when playing bad players?
Sometimes grinding can be a little slow. I mostly find it boring when the action sucks. It's not always fun to sit there waiting for games or playing one table. For me this is why I enjoy living in a poker house so much.
If I do feel as if I'm losing focus a short break always helps. If I really feel like I have something else on my mind then sometimes a longer break is needed.
Charles Hawk: What are the best ways to increase multitabling skills? How would you advise players who can only comfortably play up to 2 tables?
For multi-tabling its like anything else. You just have to work up to it. It's always more important to just play what feels comfortable rather than worrying about playing a certain number of tables. Some guys can make it work better than others. If you aren't one of those people then that is just fine. Play what feels right. If you want to play more then try adding one more table for a short session just to get the feel of it. You don't need to just throw yourself into a ton of tables, just ease into it and play where you can maintain focus on your decisions.
Charles Hawk: What are your views on how to live a happy and meaningful life?
To live a happy life I feel like you need to do what feels right. it is quite different for everyone and it requires being honest with yourself. It's your life and you arent living it for anyone else. Surround yourself with positive people you enjoy being around and who you care about. It may sound cliche, but I do believe happiness comes from liking yourself first. While money may lead to feeling happy in a moment, I don't believe it will lead to happiness. Everyone has their own path and I dont think there is a single answer or a map to being happy. Some people find happiness in traveling the world, and others find it in starting a family. Be honest with yourself. It's ok to make mistakes and it doesnt matter if you dont know where you will be in 5 years.. Or maybe you feel happy planning everyhting out? It's up to you! It's ok to not always feel happy too as this is easier said than done. It's not hard to write a paragraph about happiness in theory compared to actually acheiving it on any kind of moderate to high level. Either way, learn to respect yourself. Expect the unexpected. Be open minded. Life is full of surprises. :)
