killuifuplay: At the beginning I would like to point out that I really love husng.com, and I adore your weekly high stakes report. I think I didn't miss a single one since you started them.
Charles Hawk: Thanks man! :) Means a lot!
Charles Hawk: Are you happy with being able to profit from this industry?
killuifuplay: Yes, I am very grateful. Poker is my job and I sacrificed very much to be successful in this area. I used to have some post-it notes in the place where I grind with quotes like "I really appreciate the way how I am earning money for my living" and stuff like that. :)
I was top student, on my way to some law school, but at some point in high school, when I was 17 years old, I decided to give all my focus to poker. From the best student in class I became one of the worst, but I was very aware that at that moment, if I will go to school I will start to earn some serious money after maybe 5-7 years. I couldn't wait that long.
I never regreted my decision since then. So that is why I am very very grateful . It wasn't an easy journey, but now I can say it was totally worth it.
CH: Do you value money?
killuifuplay: Yes. I value money very much. I think it is very important to not treat money online as play-money. You need to be able to trick your mind in some ways when you lose big amounts, but at the same time you have to be aware that this is serious money and you should respect it. I have to say I am much diffrent than most high-stakes regulars. I don't like big bets, investments with high risk, etc. I think it was my main advantage of moving up very fast. I never cashed out much back then. My only focus was to play as high as possible in hyper turbo and be as good as I can.
CH: What are your views on how to live a happy or meaningful life?
killuifuplay: Having a good balance in your life is the most important. I think you have to do something that makes you happy, and the best possible scenario is when you are able to making money with what makes you happy and at the same time help others. That is why I stopped playing this year and decided to focus mainly on coaching and my other projects (like spins). Because it makes me much happier at this moment of my life. I love the feeling when I help someone to be better, and I don't mean only poker here. I am also a chess and a football coach with big background in all of these areas.
CH: What characteristics does a person need to have to be able play the highest stakes possible? Do you think everyone can climb the stakes to the very top these days?
killuifuplay: No. I don't think everyone can make it. It is very hard these days, but of course still possible. You have to be extremly dedicated, focused on your goals. It has to be the most important thing in your life. Competition is so high at the moment, sometimes even if you give 100%, your best still isn't enough. You also need to have some talent. I think "talent" in general is very overrated, but at the highest stakes this is the difference between the top 15-20 players and let's say top 5. The smallest things, which they see in the right moments, it is almost impossible to explain.
CH: You are rarely seen online these days. Why?
killuifuplay: As I mentioned, at this stage of my life I wasn't happy with online grind. I felt fulfilled already. I proved to everyone and, most importantly, to myself, that when I am giving my best I am one of the best in the world. I am sure I will be back at some point, but at the moment I would like to give something back to the community. And I hate this phrase "give something back to the community". So often when you read this it sounds so obvious. But tell me when the player from the absolute top, extremely succesfull in the poker world decided to switch 100% to coaching instead of playing. I have really high motivation. I feel now like in the year when I decided to make my first SNE (2012). I want to coach people, make them better players, and enjoy the process. It really makes me happy. That is why I am also chess and football coach as I mentioned :).
CH: Since you told me that you were the best at school when you were learning, do you hunger for knowledge in something permanent and valuable such as philosophy, politics, sience, history?
killuifuplay: Yes. Even when I was playing full time. I had big needs for knowledge in areas unrelated with poker. I read a lot of books, different types (psychological, fantasy, economical, historical biographies). My favorites are autobiographies. I read at least over 50 biographies and autobiographies. I tried to find what is the common ground with all the successful people, and methodology is always the same, no matter if you are a poker player or tennis player at the highest level. Hard work, hard work, hard work.
CH: How big is your concern about possible inflation? Do you feel a need to invest money in some real estate, maybe some gold or art, to protect your bankroll/savings from possible recession?
killuifuplay: You have to diversify your wallet as much as possible. It is extremely important to have some sort of income unrelated to poker. You have to find some other areas when you feel strong enough to make some real investments over there. It is extremely important to have proper people around you who have more experience and knowledge than you, and the most important is you have to be sure you can trust them. You have to know your limits. I am totally aware that I am the best at poker and even when I read like 50 books about property market it doesn't make me an expert. I have a nice quote which fits here: "When the man with the money meets the man with experience, the man with experience becomes the man with the money and the man with the money becomes the man with experience." You have to be extremely careful to not pay too much for your lessons in fresh areas.
CH: What do you think about online poker’s future? And about HUSNG hypers future?
killuifuplay: I see online poker's future in a very bright light. But you have to be at the right place at the right time. That is why I started my new project. I think action in hypers is worse with every year. Those games are still very profitable, but not as much as let's say in 2013. More reg-wars, much worse donk/reg ratio. To be honest I think Spin and Go's are the online poker future. Spins are destined for recreational play. They have some thrill factor at the beginning when you don't know for how big of a prizepool you will play, etc.
CH: Do you think husng hypers could ever dry out because of Spin and Go‘s?
killuifuplay: As I mentioned, I think Spin and Go's are online poker's future. I think action at hypers will only get worse because most of the players will transition to Spins. It is of course my subjective opinion. Best example is one of my business partner in our Spin & Go project, FCDplayer_PL. He had extremely good results at hypers. Extremely successful. And now he's decided to share his time for both Spins and Hypers., because he sees bigger opportunity over there.
Other part will be released next week.
