Interview with Spins $100-$60 reg Knut "smatt" Turk (Part 2)

Part 1: CLICK HERE

Introduction

I'm 27 – from Estonia – officially the laziest person to have ever walked the earth. I enjoy fairly simple things in life, like eating well and lots of it while having a pint of liquid gold in my hand, spending time with friends, which moslty relates to me and and my best buddy being the biggest drunkard degens we have yet to encounter.

When I have the time I love being out in the countryside visiting my grandparents, even if it's just for a few days, getting away from literally everything -  not having your laptop with you, checking mails, being on skype or having to watch that one ridiculously hilarious youtube video someone just sent you is really the most enjoyable way for me to relax.

Charles Hawk: What is your ratio between playing Spins and studying it? How long do you spend reading forums or chatting about Spins?

Knut "smattle" Turk: On average I'd say it's around 3:1, most days I don't spend much time studying on my own, as with the coachings from HUSNG and being part of a large group there is some sort of discussion/interesting topic or Hand analysis going on pretty much always. On off days which is usually Monday/Tuesday I spend more time studying, watching videos, or reviewing my own games and hardly any grinding.
I'm not really active on any forums, I do lurk a bit on 2+2 and am somewhat active on tiltbook.com but overall most discussions related to spins happen over skype with members of the group.

Charles Hawk: Do you do any sports? Some other 'off-poker things' which would help you at the tables?

Knut "smattle" Turk: I used to be very active in my highschool days, playing football, basketball, tennis and even doing athletics – but a medical issue with one of my knees forced me to quit being too active when it comes to that. As mentioned before I play disc-golf and work out semi-regularly to keep me “healthy” at least, even though everything else I do in my free time seems to completely counter that...

Charles Hawk: What bankroll management would you advise when starting Spins?

Knut "smattle" Turk: It really depends on the player, his background and his overall financial situation. When starting out it's obviously hard to determine what your expectation in these games will be so I would suggest a fairly conservative BRM. Being prepared to lose hundreds of buyins in a fairly short amount of time is essential to not get frustrated right away. Of course for someone who has a background in a similar format and is maybe willing to take the chance of busting their roll and or move up/down in stakes frequently, a much more aggressive BRM can be more efficient.

Charles Hawk: How long do you play Spins? Do you see the improvement of the pool? Do you notice the increasing amount of regs playing them?

Knut "smattle" Turk: I started playing spins as my main format this year in February.

The overall progress of improvement is natural since it's still a fairly new format and at this point I doubt there is anyone out there who can claim to know everything there is to know about it. Looking at how many years it took until we established something like GTO in HUSNGs I think with spins and all the different situations in them it will still take quite a while until we can say we have actually figured it all out. So until then the regular playerpool and quite possibly even the recreational one will keep imporving steadily.

Charles Hawk: Which Spin and Go hud do you use? Any stats that needs to be added to make it better in the future? Do you have any advices for the future updates?

Knut "smattle" Turk: For 3 handed play I'm using a HUD provided by the HUSNG staking team and I'm really happy with it as it's a very clean and easy to access one. I think there is already a decent variety of different HUDs that are great on the market, so I don't think there is a particular need for improvement in that area right now. Whether or not having a massive indepth HUD is optimal in 3 handed play of spin and gos, that's for everyone to decide based on their preference.

Charles Hawk: What are the chances for Spin and Go cartels to form in the near future? Do you think Pokerstars will allow that?

Knut "smattle" Turk: I didn't even know the Mexicans were involved on pokerstars....

If however a pool of regular players were to establish a system how to prevent lobbies from being overcrowded and force reg vs reg play, I don't see why pokerstars would have a problem with that if they tolerated it in another format. At this point I don't expect anything like that to happen anytime soon though as the format is healthy, the regular players make a fairly small % of the player pool and overall with the way the lobbies work a lot of the games played at the higher stakes have more than one “reg” in it already.

Charles Hawk: How many tables do you play at once? Write to the readers as many multitabling advices as possible. Please describe the differences and similiarities between multitabling hu hypers and spins?

Knut "smattle" Turk: So far I'm playing up to 4 tables at once, probably adding more - up to 6 at some point. I guess the biggest difference is that it is somewhat easier to multitable spins as you're not constantly required to take action like in HUSNGs. On the downside playing more tables will also result in less information being picked up from your opponents, and neglecting attention to the villains actions while you're uninvolved in a hand may cost you a fair bit of expectation.

I doubt anyone reading this needs advice on “how to multitable” per se, so keep calm and don't spew I guess? :D

Charles Hawk: Any differences between best ways how to mentally approach Spins in comparison with husng hypers (having in mind variation differences)?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dorbfKb5sx4

Knut "smattle" Turk: Jokingly  I've always said spins are a format where you start grinding now and get paid in December. It is what it is. I think the mental approach should be the same really. The only difference is that short term variance can be massive but on the other hand that also means that you can even out long term variance in a matter of minutes.

Charles Hawk: Do you play differently 2x multiplier in comparison with 4x and 6x multipliers?

Knut "smattle" Turk: Yes.

Charles Hawk:  Do you play differently 2-6x multipliers in comparison with 10x+ multiplies? Describe differences; how to play them?

Knut "smattle" Turk: I think we can classify a 10x multiplier in the same region as 4x/6x. While there might be a slight incentive to focus more on the higher multipliers and less on the 2x running at the same time, I think overall a lot of the expectiation in the format – especially with variance in mind still comes from 2x games since those are the ones you play the most.

Charles Hawk: After how many games players could confidently know they ability in Spins (roi)?

Knut "smattle" Turk: “A billion games” - Spl0dg3

Charles Hawk: When players should not use nash charts in Spins when 10bb and less? 8bb and less?/What characteristics/stats villain should have to not use nash?

Knut "smattle" Turk: Nash works best against villain(s) that use Nash themselves, so with that in mind playing nash against the average recreational player in spin and gos would seem about as effective as trying to raise HIV awareness by refusing people access to condoms.
