Interview With Yovengo (Part 2)

Last week we published part one of the Yovengo interview. Here is the second half of the interview:

Charles Hawk: How long have you played Spins for? What are your first impressions of the format?

Yovengo: I tried them out when they got introduced on PS but didn't play them on a regular basis. Since they launched the 60s in February I have played close to 3k games. I was very surprised about the skill level and the kind of recs playing the format.

Yovengo Poker Interview

Charles Hawk: Do you prefer to play HUSNGs over Spin and Gos?

Yovengo: I enjoy playing hu hypers still much more than spins. But as a reg you kind of need to follow the recs and unfortunately the traffic at hu hypers is shrinking every week.

Charles Hawk: What is the biggest differences playing 3 handed vs 2 handed?

Yovengo: Obviously the ranges change quite a bit and you can't be as loose as you might want to be in a hu game because the playability of many hands go down by a lot if 3 players see a flop.

Charles Hawk: Any differences between a heads up game in Spins, when you have 25 big blinds or less, and a husng match?

Yovengo: That depends very much on the multiplier you hit in the spin. Almost always you already have an idea about your opponent if you are hu in a spin so you can adjust your game already at the start of the hu. In hu hypers you will start readless very often and thus need some hands to get an idea how your opponent plays.

Charles Hawk: Is your hourly bigger than playing husngs? (If we divided husngs 200USD by 3.33)

Yovengo: As we have to count in all the waiting time in hu hypers my hourly is def bigger in spins where you can have almost indefinite action if you mark some regs in spinwiz.

Charles Hawk: It is normal for husng pros to have 11 winning months out of 12. How about Spin and Gos? How big is the difference in variance?

Yovengo: In theory variance will always be correlated to your skill level and ev. Thus the better you are the lesser the variance should be. But that’s the theory and after playing with some tools I was pretty shocked how nasty a bad spin downswing can be if you don't have a very high ITM %. Players can seek staking to really alleviate a lot of the variance concerns. It can be a good peace of mind to grind without worrying about the downswings. I stake people myself.

Charles Hawk: What was your biggest downswing?

Yovengo: Around 6k, thus 100 buy ins. Biggest ev downer was 20 bi´s.

Charles Hawk: What bankroll management would you advise when starting Spins?

Yovengo: Depends whether you are willing to move down and rebuild your bankroll if things don't go as planned. But in general I wouldn't feel too comfortable playing spins for a living without having a cushion of at least 250 buyins in my account.

Charles Hawk: Do you think we'll see a rake decrease if they bring out 100s on stars soon?

Yovengo: We don't even know if there will be 100s spins on stars anytime soon. So this is all speculation but I think that there will be both a rake decrease for 100s and a reduction of supernova elite benefits as lots of regs will reach sne with 100s spins.
