HAND #1 comment:

Semi-non std 3bet from me, i'd like 85 or 96 a bit better but nothing too out of the ordinary.  flop is std from both, turn check call is again standard.  He definitely has a lot of 7s but also draws and worse two pairs.  Great river check by him though, felt so owned.  Can't see how he doesn't bet/fold at the very minimum but nice soul read.  Stacking 99% of villains here.

Hand #2 comment:

Nice call from anthony on the river.  I really don't have much air in my range except missed flush draws, and a lot of those ended up making straights.

Hand #3 comment:

Anthonyff getting a little gangster on an A hi board.  This is a spot where I don't think I can ever really fold though, I just think he's so polarized and my perception is that he checks back weird hands every so often on A hi boards.

Hand #4 comment:

Interesting spot from B12 on the river where I'm not sure if his river bet is a bluff to fold a better king or a really thin value bet.

Conor "Earl Hindman/Jaws Washington" Shelly

1) When and why did you start playing poker? Could you tell a whole story from trying poker for the first time to becoming proffesional grinder?

I got interested in poker really young because my older brother and his friends started playing home games the year after Moneymaker had his run. They only had 3-4 kids interested in poker, so they'd drag me along even though I was only 13 or so to make a proper game. It was only penny stakes but I loved playing back then. When he got involved in online poker when he went away to college, it cemented for me that I wanted to play poker for a living. Like any underage kid I used to grind away at freerolls when my parents thought I was asleep. I'd occasionally run up a 30-50 dollar roll and inevitably punt it off. Fast forward maybe 5-6 years and I got back into it a bit my freshman year of college and would run up 2k+ rolls at 6max turbo sngs then tilt it off at hu cash or hu sngs.
I took a gamble of sorts at "going pro" the summer after my sophomore year of college. I set up a grind station in my sister's old room in my parents house with 500 bucks in my account and no real games that I beat. It went terrible for the first two months, I was basically busto in mid-July and I was leaving for Denmark for my study abroad in one month. I took a 20 dollar rakeback payment, tried reg speed sngs and thankfully found some immediate success, moving up from 5s (4 buyin brm, yo.) to 30s/50s within one month in which I made 3.3k which seemed like all the money in the world then. I basically became a terrible pro for the next few years, going on runs, dumping it back, getting extremely frustrated, etc. I'd finally run back to almost a 6-figure roll when black friday happened and that basically set me back immensely. I had like 99% of my net worth on full tilt at the time, and I had to sell a lot of it at a really bad price just to have some money so that set me back immensely.

2) How much hours per week you put into grinding and how much to self-coaching?

No idea, I don't do so much off the table work these days. For me I just stay sharp by playing and thinking about situations vs people. I usually play every day around 5-7 hours I'd imagine.

3) Who are top 5 hyper husng players?

No surprises here - Top tier Gr33n13, Skai, and Serk when he's motivated. Second tier- Helio, Lotte. I'm not too sure how I rate like killu vs helio vs lotte cause I haven't played any of them really so it's just an educated guess.

4) The most expensive gift you bought to yourself

Vacations/ travel expenses is probably number one. Then I'd guess parties. I blow way too much on these two things and improving my money management is another goal of 2014. I don't fall into some of the normal poker player money drains. My watch is really reasonable and I don't smoke weed so I don't have a super expensive bong or anything like that. I don't have so many physical things because I'm moving countries every 3-6 months. I basically travel on the lighter side with clothes and grinding stuff.

5) Tell me your hobbies

Uhhhhh, I'm a poker addict I guess I'd have to admit. I need to hit that often discussed life/poker balance a little bit better. Although, I can say I have been getting into the gym pretty heavily this year along with attempting to learn Portuguese. Those are what I'd pick if there was a gun to my head, but it's something I'm going to try to improve in my life after I finish or give up on SNE this year.

I love the comment on hand #2

I love the comment on hand #2 "Nice call from anthony on the river.  I really don't have much air in my range except missed flush draws, and a lot of those ended up making straights."
"nice call from anthony" and then he proceeds to describe why it's, in fact, the opposite.
