I had posted this before in the non-member forum and was hoping to get some replies here.Curious as to the general consensus for playing 3bet pots vs fish to slight winners oop. When playing an aggro opponent who is raising 95% of buttons and calling most every one of my 3bets you often get your cbet check raised frequently and end up in difficult spots and also end up losing 1/3 of your stack in 1 hand. Is it better as an "overall approach" to just call more hands oop and check raise his cbets, just float and pot control? Guestimating ranges can be tough esp. vs villian who is running reasonably hot or super aggro and trying to decide to shove over his rr's.
3betting for value looks ideal in that situation. If your opponent is too bluffy postflop then you adjust your aggression levels to deal with that usually (look for flops that they bluff much more often than they have a hand they'd raise and play back). And by 3betting for value I mean widening from the usual "premium" that people might think about, but also hands like KJ, KT, QJ, JT, even wider if they are really calling 3bets with a good amount of that 95% opening range. If you start to see preflop fold equity, then you simply identify what types of hands your opponent is calling and folding with, and mix in some weaker hands into your 3bet range to take advantage of that fold equity (with an eye on what types of weak hands match up best for postflop purposes in the event that you are called, but the main point is to have a weaker range that takes advantage of fold equity when fold equity is present).
I understand your answer but more specifically i was asking about those tough spots oop when your cbet gets rr'ed frequently in a 3bet pot....what to do vs an aggro opponent. Esp. when they are running hot. Adjusting hand ranges to preflop fold equity can be somewhat simple, but vs an aggro opponent oop play can be tough when your running cold and they are constantly calling and betting. Simple answer....Dont hit fold? Hit call/shove etc. yes? rather than getting into thin spots of rebluffing?. I've played around with aggro 3betting and manipulating ranges vs fish that dont fold and it seems that playing smaller pots is best as you end up losing 1/3 to 1/2 your stack with 1 o 2 hands when you have more opportunites by keeping pots small and outplaying postflop....what do you think?
