theory open range

Hi everyone

i am thinking about optimal calling range oop when >50bb.

When i look the pot odds versus a minraise which is 2/5, 25%. I see that when i call with 100% of my range i have near of  40% versus a vilain's range who opens 40% (so very tight). So should I call 100% versus minraise when deep? How can i find the optimal calling range versus a assumed range?

It's a hard question to

It's a hard question to answer specifically.

Vs a minraise, you should be folding very rarely OOP at 50bb.

My general thoughts are that I tend to play more junky hands (T2 for example) vs players that are pretty bad postflop. Identifying transparent (and unbalanced) ranges postflop from your opponent will allow you to play far more hands more profitably.

But speaking generally, calling very wide, even 100%, is not likely bad vs many villains that minraise a moderate to heavy range of hands preflop.

Even if they are raising a tight range, often that means many high cards, and very few low cards. In those cases, these players can be very weak on low card boards, and very easy to play against on high card boards. Look for betting patterns (in frequency on various boards and sizing) and exploit them.

It's not exactly rare to find a tight minraiser that minraises with mostly high cards, cbets "dry" boards in their mind when they miss (like low card non connecting boards), and check back on high card boards that they miss but look scary (say A7 on 9TJ), and of course cbet when they hit a hand. Think about how you might generally play against this player, and think about how wide you can call preflop.

When you know very little, I think calling wide is still OK, at most levels, if you're playing and thinking well, it's unlikely to be a very difficult task to work out a strategy better than folding many hands to a minraise.

Why would you even wish to

Why would you even wish to defend 100% in a passive style? Why do you wish to never reraise preflop?
